Do NOT "throw the scale away:"

I am reading SO many people lately telling others not to weigh themselves, to throw their scale away, etc.

Ummm.... no.  Sorry.  While I would never want someone to be obsessed with the scale, we NEED to be accountable.  I weigh myself almost daily and always have. Up a pound, down a pound... whatever.  But at least I KNOW and can adjust my eating/habits/whatever.

Love from,

I agree with you for your case but for the newbies i think the first 3-6 months once a week is fine being we should all lose or maintain per week prior too I did weight myself everyday but not now i will second guess if its working or not should it not move everday

I think once per week is fine too. Or even two weeks. But I get a sinking feeling when I read about someone who "never weighs". Dangerous grounds.

But hey, what do I know?

I agree. The scale makes me accountable. I know some people say I know by how my clothes fit. Well that doesn't work for me. It take a few pounds before my clothes are tight. I want to know before then

Honestly the scale is my best motivator.  People have told me to toss it out or to avoid it but I just won't. It keeps me accountable and focused.  I have had to learn to manage the anxiety that might come from a day of bloating but for the most part I do ok.  I only count my weigh-ins for tracking purposes on Mondays.

I agree with accountability but I want to smash my scale (which I do not own - for this very reason) over the head of people weighing themselves every day and posting about stalls after a couple of days.

Yeah the "I'm in a stall I haven't lost for 4 days" type of posts make me go ape****

Oh gawd, me too.  But those posts are more of an issue of people not being educated about their surgery and the weight loss process.  And they tend not to read the board because they would see posts about it ALL THE TIME and would have an answer instead of a "HELP!" thread all over again.  If people would actually READ others' posts, there wouldn't be so many of those.

Ok I'm honestly just reading your post right now Karen so don't go all  on me.. but I just said the exact same thing about the stall and reading other people's posts.

It all depends on what tool you use to keep yourself accountable. For so many the number on the scale is a great way to determine if we are still on track.  Realistically if you are still following the program you don't need a number on a scale to tell you what's going on.

In an ideal world we'd use the scale as ONE tool to determine our success.  I get obsessed over the scale numbers all the time but so far the number has never gone up and that makes me happy (although I'd like it to go down 55 pounds by tomorrow o.k.?)
