Friday Fun: Stealing Someone Else's idea for a fun thread...
Hi Pam:
So nice to hear from you. It's good to know I'm not the only "golden oldie". I'll be 61 in March.
Have you had your surgery yet? I'm still waiting. It sounds like it will probably be in June all being well. I met the surgeon and he doesn't feel I haven any health issues that may interfere with the surgery, so I have to meet with the social worker etc and then the surgeon will give me a date. I meet with him in March. I am SOOOO hopeful!
Carolyn
I had my surgery last January. It has been almost a year. It was the best decision I ever made. I have a ton more energy and therefore much more active. I am off my diabetic and blood pressure meds.
Issues I had before are still there. So I still have some pain from Osteo arthritis and fibromyalgia. I now find if I keep moving they do not bother me as much.
I have a heart issue but had that before now I am aggravating by being too active. But working this out with my doctors help.
I just wish I had had the surgery 20 years ago before I damaged my body so much. I have absolutely no regrets. Message me anytime you want to talk or ask questions. There are a few of us on the board that are older.
I'm trying to look at things realistically and not getting my hopes too high but even if I can decrease my diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol meds I would be happy. Right now just climbing the stairs is a real chore and I live in a multi-level townhouse. There are 36 steps from the basement to the bedrooms. I'm exhausted by the time I get to the top! Luckily I haven't had any other health issues and like i said if I can decrease some of the meds I'll be happy. I'm trying to force myself to be more active now but the sore ankles win out sometimes.
It's good to hear how things have improved for you. I'm hoping we can keep in touch...if you want to.
Mine is also the name of my Home Daycare...a dream I hoped to once accomplish (& did!)....as is this surgery, a gateway to a more active, healthy lifestyle, one I've dreamed of for so long....thought it was fitting:)
