Breakfast
So I decided to try an old breakfast staple, cereal.
I have been eating weetabix with a premier protein shake off and on for breakfast and doing ok with it.
I decided I wanted to try something more like real cereal, so I got a box of Vector (on sale this week so I could justify it). I made myself a bowl, 1:1 of cereal and milk - not to their suggested serving size because it's too much and more milk because I like soggy cereal.
Yuck. It was sweet and nasty and I am wondering why I wanted to eat it. I'm a wee bit disappointed because Vector has high protein and I figured it would be a good choice, but my god it was like syrupy sweet. I can't imagine how I will finish the box. I guess I'll stick with weetabix and maybe take a trip to shredded wheat once in a while to stifle my cereal killer instincts.
I am torn between chuckling and offering empathy...
I had to give up Vector a long time ago. There are other options though...
Maybe find someone (friend or family) who likes the vector and see if they have some cereals to sample. Just an odd thought that went through my head.
I switched to organic cereals for the most part years ago and honestly have a hard time stomaching anything pre-sweetened with anything but cane sugar or honey. I got hooked on something called Nutty Rice a few years back and the brand Enjoy Life bought it and rebranded it http://www.enjoylifefoods.com/cereals/. I like it with yogurt and sliced berries too (better than all bran buds, etc.).

Where do you find those Cereals Shell, do you have to go to a Health food store?
I use to have to go to a health food store... but now I go to a loblaws super store with an organic section because they carry the Enjoy Life brand... And check there first.
I actually use a couple products from various lines as they do make some corn free items... Including my newest favorite junk food.
I am the exact same. And I haven't tried cereals that are higher in sugar. Not about to start. LOL

I used to be such a cereal freak. It was one of my favourite things to eat pre-op. I could be perfectly content eating cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Now, it just isn't worth it. I can barely eat a half a cup, and when I do, it just sits like a lump in my stomach and makes me feel icky for hours. I do miss it though. Also, it just isn't a "good bang for your buck" so to speak, in terms of protein content.
And...can I please debunk the whole Vector promise?? I bought it early out because I saw it advertised as "high in protein", but was sorely disappointed. You have to eat 1 1/4 cups to get a measly 5.5 grams of protein. In the grand scheme of your day, that is nothing, and pretty much a waste of time. There are pleanty of other breakfast items worth your while. Plus, I couldn't eat 1 1/4 cups of cereal in one sitting if I tried!
What about a breakfast bar instead? Kashi makes some very delicious cereal bars, if you have room to add a few extra carbs to your meal plan. I guess if cereal was on your prior menu, then a bar wouldn't be so far off. My personal faves are....
130 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 21 cars, 4g fibre, 6 protein, 6g sugar.
These 1g protein more, and they are much more manageable than cereal with milk IMO. I don't buy them too often though, because they are addictive and soooooo yummy, but I find they hit the spot when I am craving cereal.
