Are protein shakes good for you? An article to read and think about.
I buy it at Popeye's, I have had great experiences there. They have allowed me to taste most of the protein shakes before buying it. I have heard some people say that they have had not so great experiences with both Popeye's and GNC, it depends on the individual stores as they are franchises. Hopefully, the store closes to you will be helpful. I also buy Quest protein bars from there, they are high in protein and high in fiber and low in carbs.
Can you buy Maximus whey in a store or only online? I checked online and am interested in trying this. I have been looking at purchasing the Costco brand but your right, it has lots of carbs and artificial sweeteners. I would like to try the Maximus whey brand.

they are only on-line. they are doing a production run this week or next I forgot what they said. So currently it is out of stock. It is available at iwindirect.com
they also have the most amazing Iced Cappuccino. Not the cheapest but awesome. You can also send away for free samples to try their products. I liked this so i could decide what I would really use.
I have at least one shake a day - usually breakfast. I alternate between the Premier and the unflavoured Kaizen 100% natural whey isolate, made in Canada and sold at Costco. It is made with Stevia, has 150 calories and 35 grams of protein and only 1 carb. Ingredient list is very short and simple - whey isolate, soy lecithin, stevia and erythritol. I make it with some frozen fruit and unsweetened Blue Diamond almond milk (also from Costco) and it is very very good. Tastes only of whatever fruit you use. They have a vanilla too which I find too sweet and a chocolate which I haven't tried. It is very well priced at around 45 for a huge 4.4lb (2kg) container and often goes on sale for 39. Best dried powder I have found. It mixes really well too. Most powders are that price for 1/2 the size.
I often will make a smaller shake with one half cup almond milk (20 calories, no sugar or sweetener and 1 carb ) 1/2 scoop protein powder, some frozen strawberries, and blend. Add some ice/water if too thick. I use blueberries or kiwi and 1/2 frozen banana or whatever is on hand. If you want to keep carbs lower replace regular milk in all shakes with almond milk. Good very very mild taste and really cheap at Costco compared to Metro or other stores that sell it.
If you want a chocolate version add some unsweetened cocoa powder (1 level tablespoon is only 20 calories) to the Kaizen and depending on your taste you may have to add a sweetener. I buy the Premier only because it is easy to take on the road and not have to worry about carrying around a dirty blender bottle. Cocoa mixed with the unflavoured Kaizen has a different chocolate taste so it is a nice alternative if at home and less pricey than Premier.
P.S. The Kaizen has no GMOs, no artifical flavours, sweeteners or colouring and no gluten.
