Hey all you post op's I have Dr Reed and he has me scheduled off May 2-27th, a little over three weeks...is this a good time frame.  I look at other people and they are normally 4-6 weeks.  I am just worried about how the eating will progress at work...

I'm taking six weeks off. My doctor, Dr. Hagen gave me a note for work saying I would be off four to six weeks. I'm taking the whole time off to get used to my new eating patterns and to feel 100%.

I also have Dr. Hagan and was told 4-6 weeks, and have been told by the Kingston clinic that they won't give me a return to work letter until 4 weeks has passed. My employer doesn't need the taking time off letter but rather the return to work letter. I'm already bored sill and it hasn't even been a week yet!

My surgeon wrote "2-4 weeks" on my form, so my company only gave me 2 weeks off.  I could probably have pushed for more time, but actually wasn't feeling too badly at that time.  So I got permission to work from home for an additional week, for a total of 3 weeks away from the office.  I have a desk job, though, so that makes a huge difference.

I will be using my holiday time as I do not want them to know about my surgery , it's not there business.  I get three weeks sick time per year but in order to use more than three day would need a doctors note which I do not want . I am thinking about using three weeks vacation plus 2.5 days sick and then using more vacation so I can have some shorter days and or weeks.

 Respectfully Jane

I took 15 days off. I was fine and my job involves lots of movement. Yes, I was tired and the first few days were rough but stay hydrated and you will make it. I actually felt better getting back into my routine.

I've taken 6 weeks off,  and its been just over 2 weeks now...   I was told with my one incision it will be at least 4 weeks before its even healed inside.  I couldn't even picture going back before that time, as right now I still cant even sit upright for long, stand for too long or even walk without being in pain and food it still a major issue.  Also I still can't drive yet.   I am bored out of my head as I am used to getting out, but the thought of trying to standing for an 8 hour shift scares me.  I am using sick time, but topping up with vacation time as not to loose money.  Hopefully things start healing soon as I don't want to be off any longer than I have too.

Depending on what you do, how you feel is the best judge to go by.  Good Luck to you and if you are not ready to go back, let your doctor know.  Btw, it was my family doctor that filled out the paper work for my time off.  The clinic suggested they would be the best ones to do so as my family doctor would be taking over my care after surgery.  I am not sure if that is standard for all, but I was told its harder to see the surgeon, especially for paperwork and follow up.

Best of Luck

Jenn

I agree with previous poster to go through your family dr for all the paperwork and required time off.  If you are not ready until you are at least back on reg food for a week then tell your dr.   You are still healing.   When I return to work there is no Hal's approach. It is 120% go go so I knew I wasn't willing to experiment on food at work. I had to figure out what I could safely eat.  Sure physically I likely could have returned after 3 weeks.  But having the extra time dedicated to "me" was very helpful in my overall rerecovery.

Good luck.
