Good Bye Diet Coke?
Prior to surgery, I had been addicted to diet pop since the only diet pop available was Tab and Fresca. I remember being so excited about Coke and Pepsi going diet.
I haven't had one in more than 2 months, and I don't miss it. It really was a "prep" thing that I considered might be one of those things that might be an issue once I was through the first year or so. (I hated the thought of NEVER)
I used to hate water.
Now I would sooner have water than anything else. Crystal Light and Mio are disgustingly sweet. This may change at somepoint, but believe me, if I am completely content without my attached at the hip "bubba" (750 ml bottle of Diet Pepsi) then you will be fine.
Good luck!
My friends alway joke about me having me DC bottle attached my hip.
If I can quit smoking I can quit pop.
Damn, no pop, no fast food and junk. I will save money for plastic surgery FAST. haha
Diet coke was my beverage of preference. The only other liquid I drank was other diet soda when diet coke was not available. I have now been soda free since just prior to my surgery in Oct 2010. I really have not missed it as much as I thought I would. I now drink coffee, tea (including lots of herbal tea) and water flavoured either naturally with fruit of with artificial flavor (including aspartame). I'm sure you will adapt and find your way to a new world of flavours to go with your slimmer body. Good luck on your journey!
Before surgery....Diet pepsi was my best friend. I loved it, never went without it, never drank anything else but tea and diet pepsi....at my center we had to give up pop altogether, caffeine as well. And yes the carbonation after surgery is a nono. it can cause gas and that can stretch your pouch. Its funny, I gave it up about 2 months before surgery or more, then had a sip just before I started opti, it tasted awful. I miss the fizz but I dont miss the pop. I have nestea zero now or crystal light. Its a life change, pop being part of it, even though we love it. It was for me the hardest thing to give up. But you can do it...you quit smoking....you can do this !!!!

I haven't had surgery yet, but I used to drink 2-4 liters of diet coke a day. I stopped about 3 months ago because I was having a problem and I wanted to see if stopping the pop helped. NOW when I drink pop...I don't like it. The carbonation is uncomfortable, and to be honest it just isn't as good as I remember it being.
Like you, I quit smoking Nov 2011......and pop I thought was going to be impossible. What I did was, I replaced it with Crystal Light. I buy the pack that makes 4 pitchers instead of the individual ones you put in bottles of water (it lasts longer I think), and I drink it all day long. It does have aspartame in it, but so does diet coke, lol. I didn't like juice...or ANYTHING other than pop...but Crystal Light I liked. My fav is Strawberry banana...or there is a Strawberry Kiwi one too I like. Try it =)
Lucky for me I love cold water with lemon in it.. Looks like I'm gonna start upping my H20 starting this week
YES you should, along with it being a bad habit...many people who slip back into drinking diet beverages also turn to those in order to drink alcohol....which + calories.
Drinking pop, snacking on high caloric snacks go hand in hand...and as you become more aware of your bad habits and how EASILY they enter our lives you will see the reasoning why MOST do not drink Diet pop.
not to mention that the feeling of carbonation after RNY will feel GROSS.
I am over 4 years post-op and once in a blue moon I will have a sip of pop...but not more than that..I gave up my (1) can a day habit...5 months prior to surgery and never looked back. The only thing that I drink is diet green tea....other than that I use crystal light drops or Nestea Ice Tea (SF).
it's all about making healthier choices and sacrifices for a better you.~!!
prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.
life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!. Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
