PCOS anyone?

For me RNY gave me  second chance at finally being healthy my PCOS is what caused my weight gain went from a competitive figure skater trim and fit perfect measurements 32 28 34 within a year and a half I went from 145 to 290 and steadily climbed from there to my highest of 363. I had been told the only way to fix it was gastric bypass I fluffed that doctor off finally six years later my fertility specialist just sent in the referral.  My real symptoms were insulin resistance to the point of my insulin being 8 times normal extremely high cholesterol the bad kind for my age and activity level infertility.  My ex husband and I tried for 10 years to have a child many miscarriages later I knew I had to do something to take my life back . 

RNY has been the best thing for me health wise if you have read some of my recent posts about my complications I do not attribute them to the actual RNY but to abdominal surgery itself.

Before surgery I had horrible acne every month when I would have had a period but it never showed as I only ovulated maybe every 9-12 months  the pounds just kept piling on I would walk 10-12 miles a day and not an ounce would come off both knees were destroyed skating and there wasn't  day that went by that I was in constant pain from the osteoarthritis.  I fractured my spine 11 years ago in three spots so have osteoarthritis there as well many days I could not get off the cuch because my back was seized.  In 14 months my back has not seized once

Life as gotten soooooooooooooooooooooooo much better for me I feel great I get around so much easier I have my miracle baby my arms are no longer empty I am happy

Your story sounds similar to mine. I was a size 7 when I graduated high school and very athletic as well, but I had eating disorders then too. When I went off birth control pills at 25 - boom - I gained over 100 pounds in 6 months!  And I was eating well and hitting the gym 5-6 days a week for all these years. Total hormonal disaster. I was diagnosed a year or so later by my endo. Welcome to PCOS - it will cause it to be virtually impossible to lose weight.  Oh, and the only treatment is, you guessed it, losing weight.  It was a relief to know what it was but boy was I angry. Like I said it took me 10 years to agree to be referred for surgery, so I am anxious to get on with the process. thank you for replying, I feel less alone now :0)

That sounds a lot like me.  I used to work out two hours a day and I still couldn't stop the weight from coming on.  My family doc at the time just told me to work harder.  Was so frustrating eating ok and that much exercise with no benefit.  I changed family docs and my new one sent in the referral.  I was 32 and with my husband for 14 years almost before I got pregnant and even that was with the help of fertility drugs.

Chin hairs and skin tags and IR and infertility OH MY !

My chin hairs have slowed down, my skin tags are less (no more producing), my blood levels are wonderful and my period is like clockwork and no longer a month long nightmare.  Not sure about fertility as we are not trying (have 3...that's enough thanks)

I feel better, I don't get the ups and downs from carb loading.  I have less headaches, almost no migraines. 

I don't know I would say I am 'cured' but my symptoms have lessened alot :)

My doctors have never told me that my skin tags are related to my pros...I have them but no one else in my family does. Thanks for mentioning that. Would be great if that would stop
