For those who had their gallbladder out laproscopically before RNY, how do the two operations compare? I know recovery takes longer as they are doing more "stuff" in there, but are there other differences/similarities? Thank you for any info

Did you find a difference in the experience itself - easier/harder?  Also, do they use the same port locations as for the gallbladder removal or make completely different ones?  After 5 years my scars are barely visible except for the big one at the top.  Can hardly see the other  3, one is hidden in my belly button, so that helps lol

I had my gall bladder out 8 weeks after my RNY... I thought it hurt more then my RNY. Other then that, I didn't notice much difference

BELOW GOAL        Happily maintaining 4.5 years out!!   Life is GREAT!!!  Had my plastic surgery!

I can imagine having surgery that close together must have been difficult.  Too bad they didn't take it out when they went in the first time eh?

Had my gallbladder out 12 years ago. No pain issues. Had RNY 4 weeks ago pain was heavy. RNY in my opinion was the worse of the 2.

Thank you Deborah - my feeling is that RNY would be more painful just because of all the stuff they are doing in there, but it is interesting that everyone seems different....

RNY on 07/23/13

I had my gall bladder out about 9 years before my RNY. Gall bladder was much more painful. RNY had three extra incisions.

Wow, so gallbladder was more painful even though RNY has 3 more incisions?  I like the sound of that and I hope it is the same for me. Thank you!

RNY on 10/30/12

I think it varies among each person. with both RNY 1 year ago and gall bladder removal 4 years ago I heeled the exact same. was fine within a week and no pain meds after the surgery day.
