Depends on what centre you would be referred to.  About a year is the average wait time and some people get through in 6 months and other 18 months to 2 years with an average of 1 year.  You can check which centre you would be referred to by putting the first 3 digits of your postal code in here.

Once you know which centre then people could give you a better idea.

I'm not sure on the exact wait times, I know it varies and I believe it's just on the amount of people going for surgery that year in the hospital you are referred to.  From orientation to my surgery date it was a total of 10 months. My husband, on the other hand, was a total of 5 months from orientation. Neither of us had serious health issues that would have speeded up the surgery date... oh, and we had our surgery at Toronto Western Hospital

I will be 13 days shy of 1 year from referral to surgery date. It really depends where you are, what tests you need, what medical conditions you have already.

I am through the Kingston site and having surgery through HRRH.

Referral December 3/12 ~ Orientation April 24/13 ~ Nurse Practitioner May 27/13 ~ Nutritionist May 31/13 ~ Social Worker June 3/13 ~ Sleep Study June 24/13 ~ Ultrasound June 27/13 ~ Sleep Study Results August 20/13 ~Nurse Prac. As Amanda said it really depends on how many appointments you need...I was referred in August 2012.

It seems like the centres in Toronto move at a faster pace than the others. I was five months from referral date to surgery, but I have zero complicating medical factors and I was able to take advantage of some cancelled appointment slots.

Referral May 2013 / orientation at TWH June 27 / nurse practitioner July 3 / social worker August 19 / nutrition class August 26 / nutritionist August 30 / psychologist September 3 / meet surgeon (Dr. Penner) September 20 / PATTS October 10 / Surgery October 18 2013!

I'd say not faster than 6 months on the short end and 2 years on the longer end. This is from the date your doctor gets in the referral.

Hi.

I'm in Ottawa and my referral from my doctor was sent in September 2013.   When I called to confirm that they had received the referral I was advised that it would be 6 to 8 months before they even contact me for the initial orientation --- then I guess a further 8 to 12 months (based on what I've seen on peoples timelines) to go through the stages of the process before surgery.    I think Ottawa has some of the worst times from what I've seen.

Good luck.

Totally agree about Ottawa - not consistent at all. Waiting for my 1st assessment I call to make sure they have my correct information and ask how long it would be until I get a call about a date.  First person tells me I should get a call within a month.  Ok, a month goes by, no call.  Call again to see if everything is in order and am told that I will get a call in 2 to 3 months. Wait a minute, what happened to one month?  When I mentioned that the last person said within the month she just says that there are lots of people who have waited longer than me who are still waiting.  It just makes me feel so powerless.  Anyhow, I had to let that out as I am ticked off.  As for wait times - I have taken an average from known Ottawa people and I got 10 months from orientation as an average.  But really that is just a guesstimate.
