21 days

So three weeks exactly since I had surgery, and I was set to be down 24 lbs in those 21 days. Except yesterday I gained 1.2 lbs and this morning I gained another .8 so TWO POUNDS UP. So down 22 lbs in 21 days.

But!

I am down a jean size. Tops I was wearing last year after losing 50 lbs (I regained all that and then some) either fit perfectly or are just on the verge of being a perfect fit. My shoes all feel too loose. There is a noticeable difference in how low my stomach hangs - not as low anymore! I don't look like I'm pregnant with a three year old anymore. I can spend more time on my feet without getting worn out. Yesterday I went to the grocery store and parked further away then normal and wasn't out of breath by the time I got in the doors.

I was so concerned about gaining those two pounds, freaking out about not losing this week at all, concerned that I must be doing something wrong. But I didn't stop to think of all the things that have changed until I tried on those old clothes just now. Things are changing, even if they don't jump out at me the way the scale does.

So I guess these are my first NSV's :)

My starting weight in the hospital was 249.  I have been as low as 231....and then now 235....so I am not sure what is going on...but I am losing inches for sure....I don't have "back rolls" in the mirror anymore...and my 1X yoga pants are falling off me.  I am no longer "busting" out of my bra....they fit nicely and I have room to spare.  I have been worried about the stagnant weight loss as I have been hovering around 233 or 235 for the past week - I am 24 days post op.  I have not been power walking at all and just wanted to heal but I guess I will start. I don't feel comfortable even starting 5lb hand weights for my arms because like you, and Kerry F, I also "pulled" something when I picked up a pumpkin and also some groceries....so even though I feel good - far healed than the first week, I have to remind myself - and my body reminds me to watch how I bend down still.  Everyone is mentioning my weight loss to me - even the man who sharpens skates at the arena who hasn't seen me since March.  I am down 54lbs since March 2 when I decided to cut Pepsi and watch portions and start jogging/power walking every day.  It's the little things you mention - like being down a jean size or two....and having shirts hang....I put on an Old Navy jacket that I bought on Clearance 4 yrs ago with the intention to fit it someday...and I had almost forgotten I had it and I put it on like no problem yesterday! I don't even have to buy myself a new winter coat.  So I am not going to worry about the stalled weight loss - I WILL start walking 5k each day and TRY TRY TRY to get more fluid into me.  I also had the Sleeve, but I am glad that you & Kerry F ( my surgical twin at TWH) are active on this Board so that I can kinda compare (although I know we are all different) and see similarities when they occur also.

Referred June 2012.  Surgery Oct 15/2013 Dr. Irbach TWH VSG. Starting weight 287lbs. Started OPTI weight 260. Goal Weight 160lbs.

omg I can't wait until my back rolls disappear!! Congrats on all the nsv's :) Today proved to me that it really doesn't matter what the scale says this early out, if you have patience you'll notice the inches moving around. I wish the inches on my butt would shift to somewhere else lol, but so far it's just my stomach I think.

I have found that doing a walk on the treadmill has really helped my pulled muscle - I think it keeps it from tightening up. I only go at 1.7-2 mph, and I do 45 minutes. I think that's enough for now, since I did zero exercise before and I don't want to hurt anything else. The woman who owns the gym I go to has suggested using 2lb hand weights while I walk but I'm too nervous to do any more damage. But even if you start walking without the weights it might help shift the numbers on the scale? It sucks that we feel so much "better" but in reality we are still really healing inside!

Same here - I don't notice any weight loss, or inches gone. Today is the first day I see it in my stomach because it's not as low, but when I look at pictures I see no difference. But if people are noticing it for you, that means it's working, lol ;) 54 lbs is great!! I have a "someday" shirt like your Old Navy jacket, can't wait until it fits. It's a 1x though and I am still in 4x-5x :\ But someday! Congrats on putting on that jacket like it was nothing ;)

Fluids for sure - I think that's what I need to focus on too, even more than protein. I'm lucky if I get 4 cups in, it's usually more like 2 or 3 and by this time I should be getting 4-6!

Even though we had different surgeries, we are along the same timeline - you and Kerry are a bit further ahead than me but it totally helps to have people who are going through it too, so you can bounce things off of them and see what they're doing for their meals etc :) This time next year we will all be unrecognisable!!

from October 24th - Nov 4th the same 5 ounces bounced back and forth. Then I lost a couples pounds  and now I'm back to the 1 ounce at a time. But I am power walking everyday and I assume it's muscle that's keeping the pounds on the scale.... but unlike you lucky ladies I see no difference in my body. Maybe I just don't see what others might see.

The only difference I see is most of the swelling in my Cankles is gone and I walk so much better, my knees feel 100% better and I have more energy then I have had since before quitting smoking 21 months ago.

The pulled muscle is a bit of a pain especially since I'm not taking anything for it but now I'm really feeling like I'm ready to hit the gym and Aquafit!!

For sure if you are power walking then you're building muscle. Have you tried on any older clothes to see if there is a change? That's really the only way I clued in. I don't know if anyone actually notices the difference on me either, no one has said anything anyway. But I am kind of in hiding - I want to show up to Christmas parties and New Year's and have people say, "You've look great!" :p

Even if we don't see the difference, what you mentioned about feeling better, walking better, swelling going down - that's the really important part. If you feel good enough despite the pulled muscle to think about the gym and Aquafit then you're doing great!!

I haven't tried smaller clothes but the ones I've been wearing for the past 2 months still fit me comfortably  they aren't baggy or loose feeling.

bought a treadmill today so the walking has increased  over 10,000 steps today!!

Thanks! :****ep telling myself I won't get on the scale until Monday morning but I don't know if I'll actually be able to stop myself! But if I can resist, I bet I'll see some movement by then :D

i was stuck at even or gaining and or losing an ounce a day. For the last couple of days I am down 6or so ounces each day. I am walking but just eating a tiny bit more or real food and seems to be helping me loose a little more

Yeah I guess since we're in starvation mode our bodies are rebelling against losing any more fat - so upping the calories by a little bit might help. Right now I'm between 500-600 but by the time I factor in exercise I'm only netting 200-300! So maybe trying to get 600 cals in a day would help speed things along ;) Good luck and hopefully you'll keep losing those ounces!
