I think I am slow loser....
Hi...
I am 6 weeks from surgery, I have only lost 24 pounds since surgery... but I did lose 13 pounds the 2 weeks before surgery. I am eating about 750 cals, and getting about 70 to 90 grams of protein a day ( my nuts goal is 69 to 89), drinking 50 to 70oz of water a day. I am 5'10 and 53 yo. I know I have lost inches.. and can wear an 18 down from a 22 just before surgery. I am walking about 20 mins a day... and taking a yoga class once a week.
Does this sound about right for weight loss? I have not lost anything for about a week. I am average 4 pounds a weeks... I am struggling with my inner conversatons that are telling me that I will fail at this like did with all the other my attemps at weightloss.
Thanks in advance for any help or advise.

*~*~*~*~*~*~* Helen, First off....... CONGRATULATIONS on your surgery.
Second: stop talking to yourself ..... Tell that inner voice to shut up
You WON'T gain the weight back as long as you follow the program.
All of us have hit plateaus and many of them are around the same time as you. I hit one and stayed there for for several weeks.... Oh yeah, it was frustrating.
However, what was going on is.... the weight was shifting. I lost sizes... Then the weight started dropping again.
Hang tough and keep positive thoughts... Millie

Everyone loses at a different rate. You also might be eating too few calories; try going up to 1,000. Your body thinks it's in starvation mode. (Ask your nut first, of course ... I'm not an expert, just another WLS patient four years out.) And inches lost is another indicator of success too. Don't just look at the scale.
It took me three years to reach my goal of 180 pounds lost ... I was a very slow loser. There were times I had to jump-start my weight loss, but I didn't do that until two years out. You shouldn't start worrying yet. You're still young yet. Your body will do this ... lose and catch up, lose and catch up. It's maddening, because you want to keep losing, but it doesn't work that way, unfortunately. If your body thinks it's in starvation mode, it will hold onto every pound for dear life. So sometimes you have to add back some calories just to fool it. And then it lets go. It's true. Or vary your exercise routine. Add some weights on some days. You sound like you're doing just fine, though. Cut yourself some slack!

Helen,
Congratulations - you are doing great. We each lose at different rates - seldom a set pattern at any tme.
When the people in the support groups say they have ONLY lost X amount of weight, I ask " Would you say ONLY if it was a weight gain?" Probably not.
Stick to your plan and WLS works. And it is a LOT of work so don't get discouraged.

Don't sweat the small stuff is all I have to say to at this moment, Helen. I know that sounds harsh, but in a few weeks this is going to be yet another bad dream. Your body is working to catch up with what just happened to it. It just went through major surgery. It goes into trauma mode almost. I know I went through the same thing that you did. I just knew that I was going to be the wls poster child on "What NOT to do when you have wls". Well, that went out the window and now I am joining the "Look what wls can do for you" group. Just think when we get a group picture you will be in it and WE ARE ALL GOING TO FIT IN THE PICTURE! Isn't that great.
I think I would increase my food a bit. Eileen is right with the starvation mode thing. We experience that all the time~even now.
You are doing just fine~really you are. It won't be long and weight will start dropping again. The only ones that don't do as well in wls surgery is the ones that don't use their tool because they think the tool is going to do all the work. We could only wish that it would. Just doesn't work that way.

Hi
We are the same age and surgery dates (close) and I am about the same as you with weight loss, however my BMI alot higher, anyway I am with you, I have only lost 27 lbs since surgery, and 17 before. I try not to be too concerned, I know it will come off, I try to get in at least 60 grams of protein a day, and around 600 cal aday, but most of the time, I can't even get to 60 grams of protein. I am just believing that it will come off eventually and that I will figure out a way to get in a routine of getting all my water and protein in. We just have to not listen to those negative inner conversations.
Just wanted to share, your not alone, maybe we should start a slow loser board...ha
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!

Thank you every one!!! I will email my nut today and see what she says about my calorie intake... and then I will up my calories.
Thanks for the reminder that my body is still getting use to my new internal plumbing... I am grateful that my increase in veggies servings is helping with my constipation! And I love being a size 18 ... I thought I would NEVER get back into these clothes I bought when I dieted to get into my wedding dress 3.5 years ago.

Hi Helen,
You got lots of good input, just wanted to add my two cents worth, as I think many of us, have that thought process of being the only one who will fail at this. . . as was said, we all hit stalls along the way, our bodies are reacting to what we've done to them, my most recent stall lasted 8 weeks, and being further out in this process, I was feeling like, oh, I guess this is it for me, well guess what, I have started to lose again, and my size 14s (which someone kindly gave me last month) are baggy, look out, size 10 (my goal size) you are within reach and I am successing (a word made up by someone in my WLS group, which means we should never think of ourselves as having succeeded, because that implies the job is done and this is a lifelong commitment) at this daily by following my program as set out by the NUT and attending support group meetings and also upping my exercise routine, which I am now trying to do 5 days a week. It's a lot of work and things to get used to, but this works and we are here to support one another in the process. You are doing great!
Wishing you continued progress, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen
