... just to stay in the same spot!

I haven't posted anywhere here for alooong time, as I have been actually living a life. Went back to school, for medical assisting. At 60, I was unsure if I could even learn anything, but the year has flown by and I have done well.

Thing is, school became primary interest in my life, with maintaining my weight loss secondary. I managed to keep my exercise plan going, been fairly faithful to the diet, but in the past few months, since a bad bout of the flu,  I have gained some weight. Nine pounds. Ack!!

My surgeon warned me that at my age, maintaining the loss would be difficult. He wasn't kidding, damn him. And in six weeks, I have to go back for my third anniversary check-up and face him with that lousy nine pounds hanging around my neck (okay, my butt) like an albatross.

While there is still time to get that nine pounds off, here's my question: what to do? Should I go back to the early stage diet and really cut my intake back? Try to increase my exercise, but not sure how I can do that with finals approaching? I am so dreading going back, not only short of my Goal - I had/have dreams of seeing 170 before I die, but have never gotten lower than 200. Started out at 350 lbs, 12/06. Doc said I was probably "stabilized" at 200, and I can live with that if need be, but not this nine pounds!!

Help!!!

first of all, congrats on going back to school.  i am also 60 and i dont
think i could deal with school again.

yes, i agree maintaining weight loss is the biggest challenge of all.

i suggest that you sit down and see where you are adding extra calories
to your diet, and of these calories, figure out what you can do without.

for me, its been carbs sneaking back into my life.  i have to watch
those little devils.

if you can increase your exercise also, thats good.  be sure you are
getting in all your protein and fluids and vitamins.  if you are not, that
could be causing you to eat when you dont really feel hunger

hey you took the first step and posted here today, and i know you can
take the next few steps and get off those 9 pounds.

be safe and well, jacki

Thanks for the reply. Your comment about the carbs really hit home - I know I have been eating more of them lately, since I crave them when I feel tried.  This nasty virsu leave sone feeling tired all the time, too.

I think maybe I need to go back to the daily food diary recording. It's so much more real when you have to write it all own.
