First it was spinach, then tomatoes, peanuts, pistachios.... and now SWINE FLU??
And here Louise and Thelma are hitting the high seas.
Looks like Carnival is cancelling the Mexico stop and substituting a fun day at sea. Wonder where they will go? A mile out of Galveston and save fuel? Or we can just WAVE at Mexico on our way by. But we've not been cancelled yet.
Dr. gave me a prescription for Tamaflu and told me to have a good time. I'm taking Imodium AD and Tylenol. At least if I get the runs, I can stink up the ship and not dirty up my own house...:)
But truthfully, I'm not too worried. I can use 4 days of just having someone else take care of me.
Still looking forward to the trip. After all, 30,000 people die from the flu in the United States every year. What are the odds?

Yeah, Carnival gave us an extra "fun day" at sea when we were supposed to have a whole day in New Orleans seven years ago when they had to airlift two passengers off the ship because of sickness/injuries in Cozumel. We wound up getting five hours in New Orleans at night (and I was traveling alone, so I wasn't going downtown by myself). Not exactly what I wanted out of that cruise, to be honest. One of the reasons I booked that particular cruise was to get to New Orleans and I didn't get to see it, other than the dockside mall.
Well, have fun anyway. Grand Cayman is nice.

Janet I hope you have a delightful time. Any time away is welcome isn't it? The change in routine, the being waited on, the ocean breeze, the entertainment at your fingertips, oh, yes, that sounds wonderful!!! Hope its just like that, and no illness of any sort. Have a grand time!!!!
Walking with you on this journey, Mary

Hi Janet,
Okay I work in a hospital and have been going over proper hand washing, so everyone this is how you do it to prevent germs in the best way possible.
1. wet hands first before reaching for soap. (this will keep germs at minimum by wetting hands first)
2. reach for soap and wash hands for at least 20 seconds, sing happy birthday in your head.
3. leave water on, reach for paper towel to turn off water, after drying hands. If only hand dryer is available, use your elbows to turn off water (unless your lucky and water turns off automatically)
4. keep paper towel in hand to open door when you exit. If cruise ship doesn't have waste basket by door you might want to educate them to put on as you leave the bathroom.
I went on a Panama Canal cruise and we had been exposed to a virus that spread rapidly and hand-washing was the only way to help prevent it. People in the bathroom would watch me wash my hands and commented. "Wow that makes sense to do it that way." They were constantly washing down the stair bannister's with bleach. They contained it and I congratulated them on how they handled everything. Customers who didn't follow instructions were taken off the ship at the next port. We had to report any illness to the ship. 4 couples were escorted off the ship due to non-compliance. Be safe and enjoy your trip. If you can, when you walk down the stairs, try not to touch the rail, good time to practice inner core strength, stand up straight and concentrate on your balance.

Hi Janet....wish I was going on a cruise !!!! I love them !!!! I have to get my son graduated from high school though. Hey when we went on our cruise 2 yrs ago....we didn't get to go to Jamaca due to a hurricane hitting it. They will give you a credit ....not a big one mind you but a small room credit to compensate for the inconvience of not making that port. But I am with everyone else. I loved just being on the ship.....I got up very early everyday and took photos of the sunrise !!! Absolutely georgeous !!!! You might want to do that....plus not too many people walking for exercise that time of the AM too. You will have the time of your life even if you don't hit a single port. Yes...it is wonderful being waited on hand and foot too. Enjoy all the activities and shows and please take lots and lots of photos to share with us all !!!
