What's New- Tuesday
Ohhhhhh Pat, you will absolutely love this store. It doesn't even look like a thrift shop but a really nice boutique store. All the clothes are hung up, cleaned, pressed and all look like new.
All the wealthy people donate their clothes to this shop and it's run by volunteers. I get all my clothes there and I look like a million bucks. I was lucky to buy top end clothes, whole new wardrobe every few sizes I go down. Now that I'm a size 6/8 and staying put at this size, I went shopping at regular stores but found out quickly I liked the Discovery shop better!! Much cheaper and the money goes to a good cause!
The Discovery shop is at West-wood plaza just before Drake Road. It's right next to McKenzie Bakery and on the other side is a Nutrition/Vitamin Store. Discovery Shop does not advertise at all because they don't need to. It's all reputation and word of mouth. They have top brand names of quality clothes, a lot of them have original tags on them. Right now they are having half price sale on tops and shorts. Not a lot of children's clothes. Some men clothes. Got my hubby 3 pairs of new jeans there. Oh yeah, in the winter you can buy a new fur coat there!! That's not for me, but I had fun trying on fur coats last year, brought a pretend one though!! LOL
The shoes that are marked are always 1/2 off. Always. I always wait and get the really expensive ones from Italy that some rich woman donates. She is the same size shoe is me and they all look and feel great. There's no way I could afford clothes and new shoes. That store has been a blessing for me. I even got the dress I wore at my wedding there!
I love Victoria! My friend Rox and I visited there several years ago when I lived out West; we took the ferry from Washington (can't remember the name of the town, but it began with an A), early in the morning and I have a beautiful sunrise photo ... probably the only sunrise photo I'll ever get because I don't get up that early otherwise. We visited the San Juan Islands first, then headed over to Victoria and stayed at a lovely B&B that I don't remember the name of. The only problem was the husband of the woman who owned it was kind of a jerk ... he was worried that I was going to break his dining room chair (because of my weight). At that time, I wasn't 300 pounds yet. He came right out and asked me how much I weighed and told me he was concerned I would break the chair.
I had my physical yesterday ... my weight is up and other than not exercising regularly (like I can do a whole lot with this lousy knee and no money to go swimming), I can't figure out why. Of course, I still think my legs look swollen. I mean, my weight goes up and down 4-5 pounds in one day ... I don't think that's from me overeating. But I'll see what I can cut out again.
Oh Annette, I asked about that hard spot near my navel ... doc said he thought it was scar tissue and wasn't concerned, but I'm going to point it out to the bariatric center PA too. Just in case, ya know.
I made my sour cream apple muffins last night ... luckily I had air conditioning or I would have been sweltering. Made a double batch; I hope to bring some up to Nan's. I plan on making some zucchini muffins/bread, too. Just have to get some zucchini ... it's on sale this week at D&W. I want to make a chocolate zucchini cake (definitely not WLS-friendly, but oh so good!) for our Press goodbye picnic for all the reporters/editors/photographers leaving at the end of the month.
The rent-to-own place just brought over my new TV. It's so lightweight, but a much bigger screen than I had before. Now I have to wait for Comcast to fix the cable (which I think will be bringing a new digital DVR box over). They're coming between 12-3 p.m. I could even get HD now if I wanted ... I'll have to think about that.
My tummy is acting up on me this morning ... I'm drinking peppermint tea instead of coffee. Had the runs when I got up this morning. I think the rotisserie chicken I had left in the frig is no longer good ... just used a bit of it, but it seems to have bothered my tummy.
Well, not much else going on. Back to work today. Have a good one. Stay cool. It's 82 already and supposed to hit 90 sometime.
Never got to Buschart Gardens, but went to the museum, which was really nice ... and then just shopped.
Interesting story on the way back from Anacortes on a Friday night. My Ford Escort lemon blew a belt (this was back in the 80s). It was south of Anacortes on the way back to Seattle. I was trying to get my friend Rox to her flight the next morning. We had a hotel reservation at a Motel 6 for the night, and then she was going to fly out. Well, my belt blew and we kept the kept the car running and drove to a gas station off the highway, which was just gas and convenience store, so they couldn't help us. But he knew of a mechanic nearby, and called him. The guy was willing to meet us at his shop and put a belt in late on a Friday night (nearly midnight). So we drove there (not far) and met him; he boasted he had every belt in the world for every car. Well, Ford Escorts had serpentine belts and you could only get them at Ford dealers (of course!). He couldn't find a belt to fit my car. So he loaned his car to get Rox to the airport and said he'd get my car fixed the next day. I drove Rox to the airport, went to the Motel 6, slept and came back Saturday morning to get my car.
Well, the Ford dealership wouldn't open their parts department on a Saturday to sell him a serpentine belt. I needed to get back to work in Anaconda, Mont., on Monday (and I didn't have any extra money to stay around ... as usual, I was broke ... and I was making $20,000 at that time, or maybe less). But this guy was a genius. He took another belt, turned it inside out, made it fit my car and got it to work. He charged me for the belt, the time it took to fix my car (not his trouble getting the belt) and the loan of his car for $20 plus gas.
I drove from his place south of Anacortes to Anaconda and for six months after that before I could get a serpentine belt from the Ford dealer in Butte, Mont., to my mechanic in Anaconda ... and the car never broke down from having the jerry-rigged belt on it (it broke down for other reasons ... it was a Ford! Fix or Repair Daily! and it was lemon too!).
That guy was a miracle worker and I thank God every day for him. That was the most interesting trip I've ever taken.
My former SIL lives in Anacortes and about 4 years ago we traded homes.....she came to my Maui condo, and I went to her beautiful home on the Skyline in Anacortes. It had a view to die for of the San Juan Islands and the ferries going throughout them. I took the ferry out to Friday Harbor....and loved the trip. I was actually looking for a property to buy, but didn't find one at that time. But the weather was GORGEOUS and I had a wonderful time.
This is the SIL who now comes and kitty sits when I go to the mainland to see my kids.
Thanks for the wonderful memory.
Aloha nui loa,

SMILE :-) makes people smile back...well most of the time ;)
Nothing much going on here today either. I am resting yet again today just like I did yesterday. The nurse found the infection the doctors physicians assistant said wasn't there. It was yellow Monday of last week and supposedly nothing Thursday but green yesterday. It is amazing that it goes from nothing to green in a few days. I am thinking that I am getting really tired of this whole thing and I am getting kind of angry right now at the doctor and his staff. I think that is what has put me is such a bad mood today. I am just so tired of all of this I can't stand it anymore. I am tired of the pain and of the discomfort of this. I just want my life back. It might not have been a life that some would like but it was mine and I don't think I am asking much to have it back. It has been going on for almost 2 months and I am just tired of fighting. I am tired mentally and physically both.
It is hotter than blue blazes out. It is suppose to be even hotter tomorrow so I am not sure what color the blazes are going to be tomorrow. The humidity is so high and the heat index is suppose to be over 100 tomorrow. I have to go to my pcp tomorrow and the air in the car isn't working. So Bill is going to get the freon and he and his friend is going to put some in. He doesn't want me to go out tomorrow without the air in the car. My heart would throw a fit for sure.
I am going to try to get some of this stuff around here picked up today. I am not going to overdo it for sure. If I do my stomach rebels...you can tell it is mine...I was a good one to rebel when I was a teen ager and now my stomach is taking it over. There just seems to be more and more stuff around here and it really starting to bother me. I can't stand clutter and clutter is what is here. Has been and I am just tired of it.
Since this whole thing with the television stuff has happened my pictures are just terrible. I have cable but there is the little colored squares in there and the sound goes in and out and there is wavy lines in it and it is just a mess. I am going to call Comcast and complain about it. I pay them almost $170 a month and I think the most I can get is a decent picture. Boy...I must be on a roll today...everyone is getting it from me.
I am going now...I am sending love and hugs to all and prayers are being said for everyone. Don't forget to spread your happiness and joy and everyone will have it start to sprout in their lives.
I had a really bad nights sleep last night. I don't know why I couldn't sleep. Too much on my mind I guess.
Nic (grandson) had his bone marrow aspirate at St Judes in Tennessee. He has more tests today. He was hurting last night and pretty tired out but doing okay otherwise.
I just came back from Physical Therapy....they wore me out today!! I am so looking forward to going home tomorrow!!
Prayers continue for you and your family George.
Margo...when are you moving to Hawaii?? I thought you were going to Panama?? I am confused!
I am going to go rest for a bit now. Have a wonderful day everyone. Prayers to those in need.
Love and hugs to all....connie d
hugs to you!!!!!!!
I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
