What's new Thursday?

My trip down the mountain paid off.  I was able to interview the head of the English department and got a lot of information.  It is hot here too.  I have been invited to participate in another academic book anthology and the professors and I are meeting tonight at 6:30 to outline where we want the book to go.  I've got two chapters to do and have done an outline.  I will miss So YOu....  I do, though, have a DVR recording thing, but I like to watch it live.

Trying to get my syllabus for summer school completed.  The reason it is taking so long is I do one week at a time and get all of my notes for each day ready so that all I have to do is print them off.  If every thing goes as planned, I shouldn't have to do lesson plans for the entire six weeks.

My kitty has a bit of problem.  Well, she has two problems: One, she is getting so fat.  Two, she is so gassey.  Her big butt is really not a problem except her veternarian keeps reminding me that fat cats are unhealthy cats.  He tells me to make her work for her food.  Well, he hasn't heard her meow.  When I take her in for her allergy shots, she is this sweet little princess, but when I get her home, and tuna, yes tuna, is not in her bowl, she meows and meows and looks at me so pitifully.  He said, cover her food with a bowl and make her play to remove it.  She doesn't play, she just flops down and meows for her food.  Her gas is getting bad too, and the vet said not to give her so much tuna.  Again, he hasn't heard her meow.  I must admit, I love that she is big; however, I don't like that she is gassey.  I guess, I will wean her off the tuna.

I don't usually get a check from my fellowship until late August, so over the summer months, even with me teaching, we are pretty hard pressed.  I mean, we are not broke, but I cannot go just buy stuff.  Well, yesterday, I got an email that said that I had 100 bucks put into my account on some kind of a fellowship mix up.  I thought, found money, right?  Then I remembered that cute little pair of sandles that I've been wanting for about a month.  I ran to the mall and there they were; in fact, they were on sale and that meant that I could not only get the sandles, but also a cheap little summer bag to go with.  Well, wouldn't you know it; I forgot to hide the evidence.  Dang.  Hubby got all pissy about we are on a budget.  He is on a budget.  We have a trip to save for.  No, the trip is paid for by the university.  Besides, it was money we weren't expecting.  Right?
The shoes are so freaking cute.  They have a tiny little heel and a big bow on the top and they are opened toe and opened heel.  They are almost like flips except they are real leather and are two tone and are cute and dressy.  If I knew how to take a picture, I'd do so and post them somewhere so you can see.  Instead, I'll look on line for a pair like them and post them.  Only if you guys want me to.

Back to work.  Oh, and yesterday, I stopped on my way home to get a cup of coffee and three hours from home, I ran into one of my students.  He was there with his family and had to introduce me as one of the best teachers.  I don't know, I felt really uncomfortable.  But, they did buy my coffee and I talked to his mom.  Guess what?  She had wls back in the early nineties and has lost over two hundred pounds and kept it off.  I could tell she had wls.  She said she had no intention of ever having plastics.  She went to Mexico to have her surgery because her insurance wouldn't cover it and they had to pay cash.  She said it was smooth sailing the entire time and that the hospital she used was an excellent hospital and the nurses were so good.  Maybe I'll go there for plastics.
That was my day yesterday and what I'm going to do today.
Hope you guys have a good day.

Thank you to all for your concerns. I see the doctor this morning. One thing I will request is bloodwork. Maybe something is out of whack and needs attention.

Work is going to be interesting today. Usually I work one on one with my clients. Today there is a huge activity at the park which will include a gathering of staff and clients. We are going to build a craft boat and set it to float on the lake. This should be interesting.

Good morning you a little OFF'ers..:)

Trying to get my stress level down.  It's been pretty difficult since the wreck.  Insurance lady said the car behind confirmed MY story so I'm not at fault as the police report stated.  I go pick up my check for my car this morning on the way to work.  Found another car last night and damned if I didn't finance it for 5 years.. can you say SEVENTY when it's paid off..

If I replaced with what I had I could have paid cash... but the mileage would be high and I'll be driving it for the rest of my life so I went with low mileage... 2008, Altima SL, loaded, 12,000 miles... it was $4,000 off the new no-haggle.  But it has a sunroof for the gun turrets to go through the top.  It IS a tank, you know.  Now my justification is this... I paid over $500 a month for five years... but now I'm a hair of $250...so I got a raise...:)

Today and tomorrow last days at work before vacation. While I love traveling with my son, Thelma and Louise trips are soooo much fun.

Nothing else happening. Guess that's my news..

I'm so happy that our folks are doing well and getting better, attitudes seem to be improving and that makes me happy.  Those that are having health issues, get BETTER!!!

Always hugs and prayers from Texas,

Janet

Just a couple FYI's for you. Do you wear a sun screen? then the sun does not do any good for Vit D. Also after having RNY your body is unable to convert the sun to the Vit D 3 .

I get those flashes when ever I have eaten any type of carbs. Journal and see if there is a pattern to them, time of day, what you were doing, last time you ate and what it was....

Just some hints..

Thanks for the information Darlene.  I didn't know that things changed post WLS with sunlight and Vitamin D "nanufacturing" by our bodies.  Do you know if that is only for folks with malabsorption, or is this also the case for those of us with restrictive-only surgeries?

I'm so gosh-darned low in my D!  I'm taking 50,000 IU from vitalady, and my levels have slowly begun to creep up - but I'm still in the danger zone.

I have looked into angel food ministries, but they really give too much food for me (especially considering I nuke and don't do a lot of cooking) and don't have a big enough freezer to store it. We did a story on it last summer. It's a good deal, but for one person, it would be a waste. Too bad. Glad it helps you.

eileen...why don't you ask a friend to go in halves with you on the angel food ...they really are a good deal...and you could learn to cook differently- crock pot? i dunno-just trying to problem solve....had typed a whole paragraph about phone sthi smorning when i remembere dyou don't have a cell- was going to suggest you do away with land line and just use cell...no reason for duplication...ah anyways..i'm just blabbering here...

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

It's not that I don't do any cooking at all ... I do some ... but I just don't have the room to store everything after I cook (I still have chili in the freezer from Feb., spaghetti sauce from Dec.). When I do cook, I end up freezing a lot, and that takes up room. Plus, if I remember from our story, they have a lot of frozen veggies, which I really don't like. (I prefer my veggies raw ... I like salads.)

I know I went through this with people at ceramics, and the ceramics teachers said, "Well, then you don't need help." No, that's not the case. She is able to take just the meat package, which I would take in a heartbeat ... but she gets that because she goes in with her son's family. I don't have that option. For me, it would be the whole package or nothing. So I guess I do the nothing.

I buy things on sale, I cook big meals and freeze ... I'm not starving, really. I do a lot of frozen dinners (because I'm lazy and they're convenient and better than eating out).

My biggest problems lately are prescription costs (because my FSA ran out ... bad planning ... copays went up big time this year), unexpected expenses and having that pay cut. But I'll survive somehow ... unless I have unexpected expenses. I am not buying anything frivolous ... no clothing, shoes, jewelry, doodads; I'm not going on vacations or exotic trips ... hell, even the trip to see my mom was subsidized when she gave me gas money (bless her heart ... she missed me!). I use coupons whenever I get them. I seldom go to a movie or out to dinner (maybe once a week out to eat, and even then I get two or more meals out of that).

I know some of you on this board think I squander my money, and I may have in the past, but I'm really buckling down now on this. I have five more months of this bankruptcy mess left. I'm gonna make it!
