Hi Everyone, hope you are all well. I have a question about Calories. I am 4 months out and was wondering how many calories should we have at this point? I take in between 800 and 900 and I do a 1 1/2 miles of fast walking a day. Does this sound right to you? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am loosing between 1 and 2 lbs per week, never any more than that, should it be more????

Gail, Sounds like you're doing well to me. My only suggestion might be to up your protein a bit to encourage the weight loss. However, there is nothing wrong with one or two lbs per week. Just read Darlene's post re: the turtle and the hare. Turtles get to their goal also! Just look at how far  you have come in 4 months! Congratulations for making this life saving decision.

I would love to up the protein but I have kidney problems and doc says 60 is the limit. I realize how far I have come since surgery its 53 lbs.The rest was before surgery. I just get nervous that I might be doing something wrong, some people talk about loosing 5 to 10 lbs a week. And everyone has such different opinions.
Thanks Gail

Gail, I know it's hard but try not to compare yourself to others. We are each so different and so are our systems and our metabolism. You're continuing to lose; that's the main thing. If you continue that one to two lbs per week. . . in a year you'll be down 50-100 more lbs. That would more than do it wouldn't it????

Hi Gail,

I think I was still at about 700 cals at four months out. At about 6 months I went to 800-900, and then the closer to goal I got they moved me to 900-1000. Now I take in about 1400 to maintain.

Have you asked your doc/nut?

Hope this helps.

Take care!

Susan

You are early out but if you can INCREASE your calories you might lose a little faster because you are exercising. I walk 3 miles a day fast and at 4 mths along I took in close to 1200 calories. It didn't matter how long it took me to get to my goal size because it was for lifetime. Lifestyle change and moderation. I lost slower but that was fine with me, it wasn't a race. My body likes how I have embraced this lifestyle change, it now craves exercise. It's a plus for me.

Now I eat between 1800 to 2000 calories a day but I exercise. Sometimes I eat more. Sometimes less but always around 100 gms. of protein. Yep, I do eat carbs too.

Thanks Debbie,
Its really hard for me at this point to increase the calories, I get full very quickly. I realize its not a race, just was wondering. My nut did speak to me and said I was fine where I was. This is still all so new and I get afraid don't want to mess up ya know.

Totally understand Gail on not wanting to mess things up.
You have done great. I just focused on the protein and everything else fell in place for me. Be aware when we do high protein lower carb lifestyle changes that we can be prone for constipation.

Hiya, you sound great. I am happy to hear you have a doctor, please consult him....smile.
I did 900-1000,but my NUT said to focus on the protein, not calories. I had good professionals, who are still at my side should I need them.
I did not do exercise except for swimming,do to a very bad knee,I should be having surgery for this in 2 weeks.
Please get back to us,and let us know what your doctor said.
