what do you do, when do you do it, and how often?

Personally, I enjoy the recumbent bike at the gym.  I normally go for 30-45 minutes.  That being said, I don't go much at all because of the long work hours.  The gym is 20 minutes from my house.  That travel time and the gym time is a lot of missed sleep.  May try to go next weekend, but I know Mary has a big honey do list for the weekend while I am off from the part time job, plus we have three Rangers games to go to,

I have been thinking of taking a quick jog in the morning when I get home, but never have figured out if it is good for you to exercise immediately before going to bed.  Can't run when I get up, as the temperature is already over 95 at that time.

I think exercise is good no matter when you do it.  The problem is, running shoots out endorphines which might prevent you from going right to sleep.

I need to try the recumbent bike.  I see them and they look really comfortable.

When doing the recumbent bike in the gym, with the TV on, it is almost like not exercising.  The ones I use have the heart monitor on them also, so you can check your heart rate.  I get it up to about 110 for a good 30 minutes.

I scuba dive every chance I get. Just reconnected with an old dive buddy I haven't seen in a while. With DH working most weekends she and I will be hitting the lakes and watering holes. I'm excited to have someone to go with me. It's not only more fun it's safer. I'd love to get a bike but there's no place to ride around here without taking your life in your hands! I know of a place like Jeannie describes...a new subdivision going in...but I have to load the bike up in the car and drive about 10 miles. It's just too easy to talk myself out of all that effort! For now, walking has been about all I can handle because of my knees. I want to do some water aerobics, I've heard it's excellent exercise without the pressure on joints. But I haven't found a place that has the classes at a time I can take them. Or a place that's reasonably priced.

For now, I'll stick to my diving.

I envy those of you who do water things.  When we go to Florida, my husband scuba dives; however, my lung has collasped twice and the doctor told me never to do scuba or sky diving. Well, he didn't have to worry about sky diving, LOL.  But scuba diving is something I might have enjoyed.

I'm lucky in that my town has so many bike trails that are just for bikers and only pedal bikes and they are protected and kept up.  Plus, we have gigantic sidewalks.

Hope you find something you can do that is consistent.

I love that old joke about sky diving.  Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

I knew I needed an exercise program. I joined the local YMCA. It is conveniently located between work and home, so no excuses. I go every day after work. Strength training (weight machines) and treadmill or stationary bicycle two days a week, aqua aerobics two days, and Tai Chi once a week. This gives me a variety of activities; good for me physically and avoids boredom. Yes, it does make a long day, but beats sitting on my butt in front of the TV. I have a snack after work, and that holds me til I get home for supper.

ratbike,

Your weight will peel off of you with your daily exerise.  My doctor told me to walk every other day and bike on the off days of walking because it takes a day in between for those muscles that you use to repair themselves.  That was in the beginning.

I envy all of you recent postops.  You are at the honeymoon phase and can literally melt.

I exercise everyday once in the AM for an hour and in the evening for an hour.
I do several different types of exercise so I'm never bored.
Water aerobics, weight lifting class, spin class, all ball class, wanna start the kick boxing class again too. I always walk everyday, I'm not a runner...never seen a runner smile while running.
Have done the cardio body sculpting class and all out cardio. I also ride my bike, I live in the country and it's 3 1/2 miles almost 4 miles around our country block. We also have a trampoline and I just bought a 3 feet swimming pool for me and the grandkids, I figure I can get in there and run in circles...I like running in the pool only. Then do some jumping jacks and other water exercises with the grandkids. Tire em out I say!!!!!!!!!!

I have started doing a lot of stretch exercises because of my back.  The physical thearpist has me doing these passive rom sets and they really make my neck and back feel good, so I've started doing my arms and legs too.  I try and do them every morning and think they are making me more flexible.  I am afraid of kick boxing.  I am so afraid if I lift these old feet up, I'll fall on my arse. LOL

It sounds like you are doing a great job at keeping the body moving.
