Gaining Control Again

I am about to be headed out the door and up to the university to impart much wisdom on writing to a bunch of about to graduate students.   And so I’s thinking about this way of life that we plunge into and how, over time, we forget and start doing little things that are contrary to our way of life.  For instance, some stop exercising, others began to eat a few extra morsels of food or high carbs, and others, like myself,  give up on the protein.  So, I thought maybe we could start the Monday after Independence day with our own contracts for re-gaining our independence from that awful imprisonment, the king of our existence—ourselves.

For me:  I am going to exercise, not matter what, but I am going to eat better, meaning more protein, less easy food.  And, I am going to make exercise reasonable and not overdo it.  I am also going to get my water in.

What about you?  What are you going to do that will win your independence from the control your mind has over your body?

Good idea, sounds like a plan

I haven't used my treadmill for almost 2 weeks. I miss it. I was actually running on it. I will start that again this morning.

I too, have been eating the easy foods that go down well, for me that is the not so good for you carbs. I will start doing the more dense protein first. It is harder but really works. That means that when I am full, I stop. Dense proteins fill me up fast so my eyes are always bigger than my stomach.

OK, here I go....

We never touch people so lightly we do not leave a trace.

I so know what you mean about the dense proteins.  This week, proteins first, then the rest. LOL.  I really need to do better, my fingers are splitting at the tips again.

Thank you, thank you friends! It always feels better to have someone to walk with. I started yesterday; not perfect, but better. Even posted on the "what we're eating" thread, which I absolutely hate. Note the people! The being honest about what I'm consuming. But I need to shake things up in a big way. I'm reinstating my gym membership this morning. That worked for a long time. Now to just get back into the habit of making that an early in the day priority. I'm retired. . . Geeeze I've got nothing but time. I need to make the most of it. I know when I exercise early in the day I have a good day because I feel good about myself. Easy does it, I can do this and you all can too. Exercise, protein first, fluid, supplements sounds so simple. . . .Cheryl, I too am amazed at home many Cheetos will go down with no trouble. And the salt? Good grief, it swells me up like a balloon!

I am good with the exercise but think I want to begin my day with the walking.  I usually wait until midmorning or late evening, but might as well get it over with.  We should do a mileathon thing where we post how many miles we ran, walked, or rode.  It's a thought.

Excellent post lightswitch!!!

Exercising is a must. Just do it. No excuses.
Eating dense protein is a must....just do it!!

All ready today I have walked 3 miles during my break time.
Going on a bike ride after I get home from work and do some water exercises in my pool at home.

Now remember, we all need our water in...and get extra during the summer especially when we exercise.

I chose exercise as my "transfer addiction"...that's right folk, I chose it. I have an addictive personality. Alcoholics run in my family (I don't drink), my 2 brothers also do alcohol and drugs. My dad was an alcoholic, died of a heart attack at 52. I had strikes against me from the beginning. I'm a food addict, my drug of choice. Yep, I want those Cheetos but I don't keep em in my house except for special occasions and I make sure they are gone or sent home with someone at the end of the day. Yes, I'm a food addict...but now I exercise!!

Debbie, I am like you, exercise is my new addiction and I go way overboard.  If I buy the chips, which I try not to, they go home or in the trash when the party ends.  I never keep anything tempting.  I bought doughnuts for the kids and even though I cannot eat sweets, I thought about those stupid doughnuts until I threw them out. LOL.  I cannot have anything in my house because it will totally distract me; even if I don't eat it.

Hey lightswitch, we are truly "soul sisters"....Yes!!! Make exercise your new addiction!!

Man, I know about those donuts calling you. This weekend I brought Rozi some powder sugar donut holes, ate 3 of those buggers before I realized what I put in my mouth. I didn't dump or get sick at all, guess I'm so much further out and the pouch tolerated it. I don't really know my limits with sugar because I've not pushed the limits.

It is a daily commitment to ourselves to watch the nasty white carbs and to exercise.
Isn't it funny how we can have something in our homes and be totally distracted by food???
Yes, I'm addicted to food and always will be. Darn it anyway!!!!
Good thing we have embraced exercise.

I have to start exercising.  The excuse that I'm 60 and  work 40 hours a week is even wearing on me.  The treadmill is practically staring me in the face.  All other aspects are good - I'm almost
halfway to my goal.

Well, good luck with your resolve!

Katherine,

You can do it.  Set your goals small.  Like, do a third of a mile for a week then up it.  Get your iPod in the ears and do the walking to music.  I love it.
