What kind of insurance do you have trouble getting?  This is absolutely new to me.

jan...if you HAVE insurance don't worry about not getting it--i had insurance-good stuff- when i had my surgery-BUT!!!  i lost my ins when my hubby's work let him go -and so i need to GET insurance--many companies will NOT insure you til you have been "OUT" at least 5 years....they are worried about things that could go wrong....and gastric bypas sis a pre existing condition!!!!

doesn't make sense cuz things can go wrong at any time if they are going to.....

anyhow- that's the low down....

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Hey Jani,  Good post.  Wish I had asked the question prior to the trial and error I'm involved in now.  I thought, mistakenly, that I was sooooo prepared to handle the post-op period like a poster child for WLS.  My strong bend toward perfection has been tested repeatedly.  It's just not that easy on this side of things in the beginning if you are struggling with nausea.  Unfortunately that has been my lot, and all the rules went out the window.  Now that makes me crazy.  I love rules.  After some extra time in the hospital, due to nausea and vomiting, I came home intent to follow the rules.

What I learned that was unexpected ---- the "rules" are guidlines only in cases where getting in anything, water or protein is difficult.  There is more flexability than you would expect.  At least that is my take on my recent experience.  My surgeon was right there every time I asked for help.  Don't hesitate to call.  My pride made it hard to call for help.  Don't hesitate to call.  Don't hesitate to call.  Don't be stubborn as I have been.  That old "if I can't do it perfectly, then I'm not doing it," is my pride speaking, and very counter to a good recovery.

I hope this helps you, and others during your post-op.

Walking with you on this journey, Mary

C O N S T I P A T I O N...and how horrible it can be.  I went 15 days without a BM once and thought I was gonna die.  Benefiber has been my best friend for nearly 2 years and and no more problems.

I also believe support is essential.  I know several people that had the surgery, went on their merry way and have really struggled.  Stay close to your new friends.  Their input is invaluable.
