several weeks ago we were discussing foot fungus and it was a good conversation about a nasty subject- was amazing how many of us have such issues!

now for the disclaimer: i am NOT a doctor or health practioner nor do i ever want to play one on television --tho if a rich doctor wanted me to live with him in another life i might consider it!!!

well- i was told an old wives' tale --**** where DID that expression come from???? i mean; the person who told me this is a wife and she is kinda old....oh well.....

anyhow- it was suggested to get vicks vapo rub and put it on my toes and cover with sox to sleep--so i have been doing that for about 3 weeks now--and i DO see improvement--i admit that i forgot a few nites...

ok- so i got mine at meijer's in the pharmacy area-$7.19 + tax for a jar and i haven't made a dent in it--- wallys or kmart or any drug store woiuld have it and i got "lemon scented" so as not to frighten off the dogs!!hehe!! i even used it at nan's over the 4th!! problem is remembering to take clean white sox into the bathroom each nite before i go to bed- i use my lil ankle type sox and a clean pair each nite -in case!--and i generously slather the stuff on the worst toe and then some on each of the others figuring what one has it may share with it's neighbor so what the heck!!!

i normally do not sleep in sox in summer so that is a weird thing...

however- i am seeing results!! just a thought  that i had to share!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Hey Margo -- it's not an "old wives tale".....my foot doctor actually suggested it to me.....however, I didn't put enough on, or forgot to do it but it didn't seem to help.....I may try it again tho.  Also, and this is crazy, for anyone who has neuropathy in their feet, rubbing Vicks on the soles of the feet at nite and putting on clean white socks did help
that problem for me.  Right now I can't bend far enough to do it, and
the nerve pain has made the neuropathy worse.....but the pill the surgeon has me taking does help (its neurontin).

Just my input!

Pat, I take Neurontin for the neuropathy. I take it 2 times a day and use to take it 3 times before wls. It has helped a lot for the neuropathy for sure.

I hope that it continues to work for you.

Yep, Vicks works for me too! My internist recommended it. I had a fungus under my big toenail.

yup it works, my foot doctor told me to use vicks several years ago also

he did not say anything about sox though, so i just rubbed it in and left
the toes open to the air

he also did tell me, that most adults over 55 cope with toe fungus, and
that although it gets better it will never really go away.

the golden years, ahhhhhhhhh!!!

That's what they told us in the Army, about 20 years ago - Vicks rubbed in and no socks.

This is exciting news........my grandfather has had the funkiest nails for years and nothing has helped him.  I'll have to pass it along......

I have also had a problem with a toe so I'll give it a try.

THANKS for sharing a great tip!!!!
We ought to write a book with all these tips aka old wives tails.......the younger generations will never hear about most of them I'm sure........

Good Ole Vicks, I don't use it for toe fungus. But I use it for massage, Some times my feet ache so bad I can't sleep or lay still ( arthritis) if I deeply massage Vicks in, the menthol seems to  really relax and cool my feet., It also helps to comfort your feet if you massage it in at  the begining of your day, gives you that AHHH feeling.

Hey thanks for that, I'm going to try it for my one toe that I have a problem with, I'll get back to you in time to let you know if it did any good, bet it's the metholatim in it. . .
