I'm home

I'm home and doing fine.  Incisions are just a little sore, nothing major.  I'm sure when bedtime comes tonight I'll be glad to be in my own bed again.
I gained the expected 8# of water weight from the IV's.  Food was pretty crappy, same thing every meal, but I couldn't eat a whole bunch anyway, so I'm fine.  The worst part is taking my crushed pills mixed with water.  I'm thinking of using only one spoonful of yogurt or applesauce each day to take my pills with until I get on a more palatable diet.  Crushed pills are the worst.  I got my calcium and iron in a chewable form so I'm ok with those supplements.
On to the beginning of my new life.
Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers pre surgery.

Aloha Jani and Welcome to the Loser's Bench!

You sound wonderful....and exactly where you should be when your RNY went beautifully. These next days will be interesting to say the least. I remember feeling like a chemist, trying to measure protein powders, get in enough water, etc. etc. One tip that really saved my bacon was making a couple cans of Campbell's cream of chicken/mushroom soup (oh so good!), then freezing them in ice cube trays which I popped out and put into a plastic bag in the freezer where I could take out 2 or 3, and microwave it for a nice little yummy meal. I think that was my favorite after-surgery food for a long time.

So glad you are through the surgery....and now the fun begins! Take pictures, measure..........write down what you eat. The future is yours....and now your body can move toward health, fitness and freedom of movement. Happy for you!

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Glad you're home and feeling OK. It'll get better every day. My first days after surgery I couldn't get much of the protein supplements they made us buy down anyway, and I wasn't really hungry. As for pills, I was on liquid Zoloft ... talk about yucky! And liquid potassium ... ick! The only way I could get them down without gagging was Crystal Light orange. It made the liquid potassium taste like flat Orange Crush ... honest! It wasn't bad. And I could mix in my Benefiber and get it all done in one fell swoop.

Call if you have any problems/questions/concerns. We're here for you.

jani can you crush them and mix them in some sugar free jello. like in one table spoon and get them down and done with?

Glad you are home and on the mend, Jan.   As Eileen said, we were on
the liquid supplements from our surgeons office for two weeks after the surgery -- they were not too bad for me, but naturally I couldn't eat much the the first few days.

Thinking of you and praying for a smooth recovery.  Welcome to the loser's bench!

No matter, they're just awful...this morning I tried them with vanilla yogurt,(I'm not supposed to have that until tomorrow but what's one day).  The vanilla yogurt was great, but the smashed pills inside made me gag.  I'll do it cuz it's necessary, but I don't have to like it! :)

welcome to the loser's bench and glad that you are back home!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
