Kinda new - kinda in the middle here - looking for a 'home'
Hi Gang,
Well - I am on the edge of qualifying for your forum. I have a lot 'almosts here.
I am almost 50 (in 3 months)
I am almost near my RNY date in Sept (2 mths)
I almost have my final insurance letter in hand.
I almost feel like I won't ever see my number drop.
I almost did not write this post.
Want to know if I can hang out in this form for a bit.
So here's my story - if I may
I am 49 (50 in Oct). I made this 'bet' with my self a year ago to be 50 pounds lighter by the time I was 50. But the scale was not clued in on the bet. It is against me. I made my apt. in March - have been on track since. But I am not sure why the scale is not in the game here.
I went to my final nurse visit last week and checked in 5 pounds MORE than in March! The more I try - the more it denies me. I get the same reaction when I see folks - you don't look heavy enough to need WLS. Then I have to tell them my family history - and when I do reveal my true weight - they are amazed and all say the same - 'you hide it well'
I sometimes thing - maybe I don't need this surgery - what if they are right. Then I step on the scale or get my lipids checked or have my BP checked and well - it's a reality check.
Those numbers do not lie either.
I am in the waiting stage. I want to start my 1000 cal diet NOW! But it's not my time. I will start that the end of August.
Anyway - thanks for reading.
Looking forward to more posts and making new friends who won't reply - 'really - you don't look that heavy!' or the other day I got 'do you work out - I mean - do you really work out - you might want to join a gym..... that might help.' Ya Think!!!!!

WELCOME TO THE BOARD. I HAVE LOST AROUND 115 POUNDS, IF I CAN DO IT YOU CAN DO IT. YOU JUST HAVE TO LEARN TO USE YOUR TOOL YOU WILL BE GIVEN AND REALIZE THAT THERE WILL BE EMOTIONAL THINGS YOU WILL NEED TO WORK ON OR YOU WILL GAIN IT BACK. I ATE LIKE I DID FOR A REASON. HANG IN THERE. VICK
EXPERIENCE WITHOUT REFLECTION IS HOLLOW

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Thank you Margo - I will take your theory!
The 5 pound mystery. Well it seems that the past few years it has been 5 then 5 then 5 now here I sit at 20 pounds more since 2006. Since the hysterectomy (2004) - it's been a battle. I feel like my whole body is falling apart and well - falling!
Yes, I had the sleep study done but have not had the results yet. Maybe next week. The tech shared that is seemed to be mild (at least that night). It's beyond me how anybody can sleep in those studies to get a good gage! My intake forms were so revealing that they almost did not do the study and wanted to hook me up right away. But they wanted to know if I had restless leg.
I finally fell asleep soundly after am (and a sleeping aid) and was awaken at 6 am. I asked what she could tell me being only the tech not the doctor. She said I probably will have to return to sleep with the CPAP machine for the next test.
Yes, I understand that sleep apnea can case a bag load of issues - weight being one. The fact that I know I get less than 5 hours or sleep a night and have sleep apnea on top of that only decreases the sleep down time more. Weight gain is the least of my worries with sleep apnea - the heart issues, and well the not breathing thing - can scare you well sleepless!
I am going to post another question soon asking about liquid vitamins.
Thank you all - looking forward to more info and insights.

Of course you can hang out here. Not an "almost" hang out either, you are welcomed. You are in the most intense part of the journey, getting it all in order so you can have surgery. I guess I don't understand why you cannot begin your 1000 cal diet now. It seems to me you'd benefit from any additional weight loss prior to surgery. But I'm not your doc, so do what he/she says. Blessings to you,
Mary
