I know I've seen others post on this subject before.  I have had this issue since I was about 20 maybe younger but who checks when you don't think about it?!

When I was in my 30s - my late was going through his 3 round of cancer mets and well - my heart did not like that very much with having 2 babies at home and a new home and no job.  So off to the heart monitor and the stress test and the angiogram.  All normal - no issues.

Now here I am again.  Had a my sleep study - they found the atrial fibrillation.  No surprise right - since I new it was there.  Sleep doc sends me in for a echo - then Sleep doc sent me back for follow up to test w/a cpap.  Had an incident - my rate dropped to 33 at 1 am.

That morning had my echo - no signs of trouble.  But that is what the  atrial fibrillation does - it comes and goes.   The cardio doc gave the report to the surgeron - all clear.  I thought - good - to go right.

Well -the sleep doc assistant calls me on Friday at 1 pm.  You HAVE to go the cardio doc now and get a monitor right now.  Your heart had way too many fibs while you slept - the sleep doc is really concerned.  I said - wait - I did all that.  The cardio gave me the all clear - I have the report - I had not flutters and my valves are clear.  What's up!

Well - the cardio assistant said the would not call me until Monday - they had to review the sleep docs strips.

I recall the cardio nurse said this sleep doc rushes everyone into cardio.  I know I have this issue - I will probably have a monitor

Bottom line
Will this hold or cancel my surgery?
For those living with this - and have had the surgery - what are you doing today for this condition?

Thanks
I need to calm down - I have a bad heart you know ......

I would imagine it depends on the individuality of your doctor and how comfy your health history makes him or doesn't.  I have atrial fib and it's never made any surgery a problem.

My son had major heart issues that began with him going into congestive heart failure and when they sent him for the cardiologist to clear him, the doctor said that the only way my son would survive is with the surgery, so they did it but with the cardiologist in the room.  He did wonderful and has lost so much weight and is off all of his heart meds.  He still goes twice a year for echos and such but he is great.  I think it depends upon your surgeon and the anesthesiologists comfort with putting you to sleep with the condition.  I'd think, since they know about it, they  would just have plenty of heart meds on the cart for you.
