Judy, Bill was skinny when I met him too...I use to call him my Cambodian refugee. Now the guy weighs in at 206 and with no smoking he is gaining all the time. He is worried but I told him that he has to conquer one vice at a time..first the smoking and then the eating. I try to help to watch but he has not one sweet tooth but a mouth full of sweet teeth! That is my Cambodian refugee I guess!!!

Well, Gary is on vacation this week so he's here in the family room with me trying on clothes he didn't know he had.  Some will stay and some will go to the church with the stove, dryer and various other household items.  He's a real spaz when it comes to deadlines.  If it were up to him everything would be packed and we'd be sitting here watching tv with nothing to do.  We've got 7 days until closing and 10 days until we've got to be out.  That's plenty of time to pack what we've got left to pack.
Margo, so sorry you've got to give Brody up.  I know how sad you must be, but you know it's the best for him right now.
My youngest son came home from our property up north with what he thought was a spider bite on his shin.  It started to really hurt him, so he went to urgent care.  Turns out to be cellulitis.  They put him on antibiotics.  This morning he woke up and it had spread to his face so he went back to the ER.  This dr says he thinks the face one (above his lip) is a viral infection, and this Dr says he's not sure that the leg thing is cellulitis.  He's going to his dermatologist tomorrow because he's been treated by him before.  hopefully he'll give him the correct diagnosis and fix him.
Hugs and prayers to all in need.
Jan

Jani,
Check your son for ticks.

Just had a volunteer misdiagnosed with cellulits, went to the ER and the ER doc found a tick in his head.

Hi Margo and my OFF family:

Nearly noon ... I got up at 10:30 when the phone rang ... damn telemarketer (yes, I'm on the do-not-call list, but they still call). Margo, sorry you have to give up Brody the hero, but you know he's going to a good home. When I moved from Montana to South Dakota, I had to give up three of my five cats (couldn't move with five cats ... too hard to get an apartment). I placed one, an all-white 1-year-old female, with a family with two little girls, so I knew she had a good home, but I couldn't get homes for Bootsie and Bonnie. I had to leave them at the shelter in Butte, and I was in tears over that. I had dreams about them for months after, hoping they found homes and weren't put to sleep.

Annette, hope your tooth is OK after the oral surgeon.

I got an e-mail from my oldest brother last night about my Aunt Bernice, my only living aunt, my father's sister. She's 91. Her colon cancer has returned and is in her bladder ... she doesn't have long to live. So I called my cousin, her daughter Patty, and talked to her this morning. Apparently, Aunt Bernice has rallied again. She had colon cancer last year and we thought she was going ... but she fooled us. She had ovarian cancer 30 years ago ... and is still alive. She's a tough old bird. Patty said she went to the hospital yesterday expecting to see her on her last legs, and she was sitting up there, eating and wanting to play cards. I hope when I'm 91, if I live that long, I'm in that good of shape. I know Aunt Bernice has lots of pain, though ... she always did, from arthritis ... and I'm sure she has fibro, although it was never diagnosed back then, but I think it runs in my family on my father's side, and she has a lot of the same symptoms -- the headaches, the body aches, the insomnia, etc. So anyway, keep her and her family in your thoughts, prayers, whatever. Aunt Bernice has lived a long life. Some of it has been very good; some of it not so good ... she had an abusive husband, but she stuck it out with him to the end and took care of him when he died and forgave him even (he was an alcoholic, too), She was always good to me and very encouraging, even when I was obese ... she never put me down, even when other relatives (including my mom) did. She always stood up for me against my mom when my mom would get on my case about something, which I appreciated. I love her spirit, her feistiness. She didn't learn to drive until she was 47, when my uncle was sick and she had to drive to get around; she didn't get a job until he was dead. But she's a smart cookie, a tough woman who knows what it takes to survive, who raised three kids basically on her own (even though she had a husband, he didn't help a whole lot ... yes, he was there and had a job, but he drank a lot). When she goes, my mom is the last of her generation.

Well, not much else going on. George, glad your Rangers are winning ... my Sox are really stinking lately. They are not going anywhere with Contreras and Garcia on the mound, although Garcia wasn't too bad yesterday, but we didn't do anything at the plate and the bullpen was lousy.

Work is work and not much going on there. Just muddling through.

Have a good day.

Aloha OFF family extraordinaire!!

Margo........sadness about your giving Brody back. I loved the image of him making himself comfortable in your bed......made me laugh. My brother has two dogs, a golden retriever and a little funny looking dog named "Yoda." They both sleep with my brother and SIL.....and they have to find a place to squeeze in....dogs come first!! Ha!

Annette.......I'm so hoping your dentist appointment goes easily and no pain...or at least good pain meds to take home with you. I've had a couple of root canals and they were easy easy, and I DID get some good meds to take for a couple days afterwards.

Yesterday a friend and I took a long drive upcountry Maui...place called Haiku. It is GORGEOUS UP THERE....everything is green, lush and flowers everywhere. It rains up there more than down at ocean level and that keeps everything looking like a jungle. We loved the drive and saw mansions with amazing grounds with colorful flowers that looked like a giant bouquet. Everything grows BIG up there.........just awesome.

Anyway, we went to the Maui Kitty Hotel and checked it out. The man who runs it was a sweet, gentle man who LOVES cats. He has two little "rooms" for visiting kitties out in his backyard. They are so cozy, and open air. There is a climbing tree and lots of shelves and pillows, blankets etc. I definitely am taking Nicki and Poki up there when they tent our building in Sept. He loaned me two brand new carriers and they are big enough for my gigantic Nicki, but they are NOT going to like being put in them and taken up there in the car. I am leaving the carriers open in the living room with treats inside and toys. Hoping they will get used to them before Sept. 12th.

When we got home we both went to our sick friend's condo to visit with her. She is doing better!! Today is the day she takes her darling little ****su (sp)....Bubba..... to the groomer AND has an appointment with her doctor. I asked if she needed me to drive her, and she said no she was going to drive herself....so that is definitely progress. Last week there was no way she could have driven anywhere. Very happy about that.

It is always so good to come in here early and find so many posts under "what's new." I fill my OFF tank with your lives and I'm good to go for the day. I think the antidepressants are beginning to kick in because my spirits are not as low as in past weeks. I'm thankful for today, and for all of you.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Karen, I was recently put on antidepressants too. In fact it has been a week and I already feel a difference. I feel like the pressure of this workman's comp stuff isn't as heavy on my shoulders. I just feel like things are more bearable. I like this feeling so much. I haven't felt it for a long time. Now I know just how long it has been.

Probably a combo helping you to feel a bit better. Knowing your kitties will get good care and your friend feeling better. Now just concentrate on you getting better. Hugs,

Hi All-
Hope everything is turning out for the best, Margo.  Perhaps not now but in the future.
My days are pretty much the same this week; sit and watch the telly, knit baby clothes and wish I could get up and resume my usual zooming speed of activity.  Very frustrating, being tied down by a sliced up tummy.  Staples taken out next week.  Yahoo!
Design center appointment the end of next week.  Once we do that all day, then have the weekend to hash things over and see the design center lady after the holiday, our new home will finally get started.  Am trying to get a group of fellow vegetarians together so we can have a potluck once a month.  Arizona is as much a steak and taters place as most other western states...a few places in odd little corners that cater to us veggie people.  And finding other veggie folks in a retirement community?  Even more difficult.  You'd think people might die if they don't chew on cows...my DH included.  We have a deal; I cook or have him grill a piece of meat and then he eats the rest of his meal via all my vegetarian goodies.  My sis is a vegan and won't allow meat in her house!  Her DH sneaks off with the 'boys' for burgers and steak at lunch.  Anyway, so much for my soapbox.  Hope all is well, healthy and happy for everyone.-Daffy
