Question about "Stomach stapling" of 7 years ago or so...
A local judge (Judge Winikoff) died a year ago, about a month after a hearing I had before him.
The judge was 59 years old. He was morbidly obese when I last saw him, and a news article stated this:
"He has battled a weight problem for years. In 2002, he underwent an emergency stomach-stapling operation. He later said that his doctor advised against the procedure "and I've got the scars to prove it."
At the time, I suspected weight had a role in his massive heart attack.
Rereading this article (with different eyes now, of course), I have a couple of questions -
Is the "stomach stapling" the same as the RNY ? And has anyone heard of an "emergency" stomach stapling?
For some reason, I have been chewing on this today... Oh, wrong choice of words I guess.

I'm a revision, had my stomach stapled in 1980.
No, stomach stapling is not the same as RNY, when you have RNY (which is what I now have) your guts are re-routed, not with the stomach stapling.
Yes, back then it was a pretty barbaric surgery, I was cut just below the breastbone all the way to the bellybutton. I also have the scars to prove it.
My surgery was the toughest revision per my own bariatric surgeon, had a lot of scar tissues/adhesion's. I had no complications, thank God!
Carla,
You are in Bradenton! The breeder of our little dog Leo Bloom is in Bradenton. Mrs. Bloomquist has bred black toy poodles for over 40 years. She doesn't even advertise - doesn't have to. We don't want a show dog but a good, healthy poodle (for our allegies). Leo is a doll - 10 pounds of pure energy.
We drove from Boca to Bradenton about 3 years ago to pick up the little mutt. We later adopted a Siamese kitten, and Leo took him under his paw. The only danger the kitten was in was possibly being slobbered to death. Now, the kitten is a very large cat that outweighs Leo. The two cuddle together - white against black and it is quite the picture.
We got Leo to keep Molly (our other poodle) company, but Molly merely tolerates the young upstart.

Yes Carla we should meet! I will pm you with my phone no.
Tevia Lewis - what a name I love it! You know a cat has to have a name that is particular so he can hold up his tail perpendicular..
I'm sorry about your cousin/landlord not letting you have a dog. That seems a bit harsh..
We own our home (or rather the bank does) but we've been here awhile and fortunately didn't get caught in the bubble.. But several years ago we had our homeowner association board try to bully us - they picked on the wrong people. I researched association law, and my husband is a real property lawyer and we pre-emptively sued the association. I guess it's something like pre-emptive war. Only it was more a defensive posture, since the board's idiot attorney wrote us a letter saying we would be sued over a MAILBOX. As I discovered, the board had no legal right (based on our community's standards) to demand we buy a green Victorian mailbox to go with our Spanish style architecture, anyway. And, as I discovered, the board had never done a financial report as required by law. So to make a long story short, we now have a court ordered "cheap Home Depot mailbox." The latter was how the property manager described our mailbox to all of our neighbors in a letter entitled "Our Neighborly Community." In that letter, he proceeded to call my husband and me liars and child abusers (what child, our poodle?). Oh yes, association boards and property managers are notorious for doing incredibly stupid things like defaming attorneys. Needless to say, the board got slapped down, the property manager and attorney were both fired. That is when I realized what out-of-control menaces associations can be. Our association board no longer tries to bullly its neighbors, and my focus is association law.. I represent homeowners and a few associations.
Jeane, the stapling is different. I know a girl who went to a Chicago hospital (this happened a long time ago) and had her stomach stapled....in surgery the staple gun went nuts and stapled most of her insides...including her liver and other major organs. She was in ICU for long time and they didn't think she was going to live. She has but I am not sure how she is doing since I never see her anymore. I don't think that was worth it for sure...no matter how much I had to lose!!!! The rerouting is so much better and safer too....
