Belated Introduction
While I have already been posting on here, someone commented they didn't know me, and I thought it was high time I tell you all a bit about myself. So here goes: I am 57 years old, living in Minneapolis, MN with my husband, Michael and our sweet Australian shepard, Jack.
I, like many others, have been heavy most of my life and was able to have a good career, good relationships, and opportunities. Mostly my weight was more "inconvenient" than anything. However... I have begun to have health repercussions now, and seeing the path I'm going down not being a good one. So, after much research and personal experiences with family and friends having WLS, I decided I wanted to pursue it.
My dear husband, Michael, is in pretty much the same boat. We've been dieting buddies and eating buddies for years. He is currently delayed in his efforts to have the RNY, for a number of reasons, while I'm fast-forwarding to have mine on Wed., Sept. 30. WOW.
What else can I tell you? I'm enjoying several boards right now, and like the way this one goes. So... thanks for letting me hop in!

I'm down 120 pounds - thanks to RNY! Working on the next 25. Then I'll tackle more...

Good to meet you! Good luck on your surgery.
I, too, was overweight/obese/super morbidly obese all my life, but, like you, had a good career as a sports writer/copy editor. But I had severe arthritis in my back and knees, and my pain specialist told me if I didn't do something to lose weight, I'd end up in a wheelchair, unable to take care of myself (I'm single with two cats). I choose life, not the wheelchair.
Now, even after losing 180 pounds and having knee replacement (twice on the same knee), I may still wind up in the wheelchair eventually, but at least I feel I've done everything I can.
I feel this was a life-saving surgery for me and the best decision I've ever made. I hope it will be the same for you.
This is a great group. Welcome to the board.

Eileen - I had a knee replacement too. I'm hoping it will last. It is still painful and I use a cane. I guess if I am going to end up in a wheelchair one day, I'd rather be lighter to pu**** around!

Mary,
A great big welcome to you! As someone else said (Suzette), you have quite a journey ahead of you and much of it will be exciting and rewarding and some of it might be frustrating, but here on OFF, you will find a whole bunch of people willing to offer their collective experiences to help you and there is a wealth of knowledge to be had here as well as kindhearted, caring people who share in their day-to-day life since meeting here.
Again, welcome and look forward to your participation here.
Best wishes, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen
