What are we eating- THURSDAY?
Hello, everyone!
It's been a crazy day..so what else is new with me? *s*
Today I went to buy Mother a wheelchair. There's a non-profit place in the Falls called "For the Needy...Not the Greedy!". People have donated all kinds of wheelchairs, canes, raised toilet seas, safety bars, commodes, bed bars..anything that people could need to be safe.
In I went and they showed me so many wheelchairs, all used in various degrees..all types of chairs for different needs. The most basic wheelchair (not built for alot of comfort but easy to fold and transport someone now and then to the car and back kinda-thing)...for $25.00!
Already prepared with Mother's measurements, we found a really great wheelchair..it scomes with many bells and whistles, fully adjustable back, seat, wheels, foot rests and even "wheelie bars" at the back so it can never tip. That wheelchair apparently retails NEW at around $1900.00. It was clean, sanitized and I had them raise the seat a few inches so Mother doesnt have to struggle to lift her butt up and off the seat. Took them five minutes. I wrote them a cheque (no taxes) for $125.00!!! I was SO thrilled. It's a bit heavy for me to lift into the trunk but that's okay, it's mainly for getting around her facility anyways.
Then I got to Mom's retirement community and they were having a special TEA for veterans and friends because today is REMEMBRANCE DAY here, so Mom and I were invited there. I wheeled her down to the Tea and she got to see her friends for a while, drank tea and ate too many chocolate truffles...lol. I, on the other hand, was angelic and took a slice of fruit instead.*s*
Back in her room, I returned all her ID documents and helped her choose her meals for the rest of the week, washed her dishes, cleaned her bathroom, and showed her a piece of crocheted lace that she had given me years ago (she forgot)...the strip of lace, about 5 inches deep, was crocheted by my Grandmother in 1913. Mom said GrandMother was quite a needlewoman..I never knew that..and that the lace strip was meant to sew at the neckline of her nightgown. She (GM) died at 46 yrs old of TB and consumption during the Great Deptression. Mom says that her mother died of a broken heart and just gave up after the preceding year, she lost three children, Mildred (7) of diptheria, Ross(16) of TB and Bernard (2) of tetanous.
Got Mother into bed, her feet were cold..made her tea and she was ready for a nap before her supper would arrive. She was very pleased with the wheelchair..it fits her perfectly!
On the way home, I stopped for tissues, a few supplements and a few other items at the drug store and headed home. I was tired out but far too late for a nap.
Thursday (today) I am headed to Burlington (an hour's + drive each way) to have an echocardiogram (not sure what that is and how it's different than the heart test I had last week there)..a long way to go for that but the clinic wants it done there.
I've got my homework done (yup, we get homework too!) Even tho I'm directionally-challenged and going around the lake (Lake Ontario) screws up my already-sad sense of direction, I will get there...going alone this time...with the help of my GPS! I just worry about where to park..parking in that city is tight.
