Question about extra skin...
My goal is to get to 124 lbs. I'm at 133. My BMI is finally under 25. My question is do I consider that a few pounds is the extra skin? Do I take that into consideration? I'm down from a size 26 pant to a size 4. My dh says I don't need to lose any more but I still want to see that scale at 124. I can't afford to have plastic surgery so all I can hope for is to tighten up as much skin as I can with exercise once I get off my lazy butt. I can certainly tell you that I won't be wearing shorts out in public this summer with my saggy knees, lol. Maybe I'll go for capri pants. Also, would the extra poundage of my excess skin affect my BMI? I would like to see it at 22 before I'm done. I'm at the point where I have to work to lose any weight. The days of effortless weight loss are gone. I'll miss them but I know I can do this.
Yes the loose skin is still yours....it does effect your weight and BMI.
I don't have much saggy skin...a little on my stomach but none anywhere else. I have always had very muscular legs. I walk a lot.....although winter has slowed me down some. I started walking again this last week and I feel great! Walking really firmed me up....I power walk so everything gets exercised.
When I broke my hip last June it really slowed me down for a while....nothing is slowing me down now!
Have a good day....connie d

I kind of feel like the Plastic Surgery guru lately....I've had almost everything done. I started with a breast reduction/lift in Nov 2008 and had a number of surgeries last year. I'm scheduled for my last round of plastics in March (Inner Thighplasty).
Here's what I've learned after A LOT of research and many, many discussion with about 6 plastic surgeons.
After carrying so much weight for so many years the skin just gets stretched to a point of no return. No matter how many crunches are done or no matter how many bicep curls are done the excess saggy skin just will not go away. I worked out daily (cardio every day and weight lifting 3x a week)...nothing would remove the skin. I built up some really nice muscles which now show nicely since I had the excess skin removed. I went from wearing a 28W dress to a 4/6...my BMI went from about 50 to 22.2 (it might be slightly lower now I should recalculate it).
I'm not positive but I don't think saggy skin impacts your BMI....that is if it is truly just skin you have ....However, If you have fat under the skin then yes the BMI could potentially be impacted.
When a surgeon remove "skin" it does not weigh as much as you might think. I had a good amount of "skin" wrinkled up around my gut...not fatty tissue....all that skin that was removed weighed only a few lbs. My arms had a little more "fatty tissue" removed and I think they weighed like 2lbs.
One thing to keep in mind...when you have the skin removed you don't necessarily go home weighing less than when you checked into the hospital. The body will swell after these procedures. I know some people who initially weigh a few lbs less but then they swell up and carry an additional 5-15 lbs for months. I held onto about 7 extra lbs for 2 months after my LBL. It could become discouraging but I learned to just accept it and not worry about...I know the swelling will go down so I don't panic over it anymore (I used to!). I spend a lot of time on the plastic surgery board and I see people all the time who think they can lose their last 25 -40 lbs by having the surgeon cut it off. Not a good idea!
Also, if you do decide to go for plastic surgery you want to be sure you are at or VERY close to goal (like 5-10 lbs close). Otherwise if you have surgery and then lose another 25+ lbs your skin will sag again!
Sorry if I gave you way more information than you wanted....it's just my whole last year was spent researching, having and recovering from procedures so I kind of go on and on about it... :-)
Hope that helped and made sense.
Feel free to PM me if you want to chat about any plastic surgery procedures.

The only other thing I'd say is don't get too fixed on a certain number....you should be able to tell when you are at the right HEALTHY weight for you. Your right number might be 124 but it might be 130 or 120....see how you feel. I thought I wanted to lose another 10 lbs but after losing about 6 or 7 lbs 2 weeks ago I realized it was too low for me.....I was even told by someone I looked "too thin". Of course part of me loved hearing I was too thin....I haven't heard that since I was about 22 years old (long time ago!).
Anyhow....best wishes on your journey.....do what you are comfortable with and what feels right to your body.
