Are you moving to lose on Tuesday?

I Might as well have had a full time job yesterday. I had a list of errands that needed tobe done and I didn't want to do them over getting pitted out at the gym One thing led to another and by the time I finally got to the gym it was after 3pm. That time of day is great at the gym; not very many people. I have been trying to count our daily carbs in an effort to help Mike lower his blood sugar. I picked up a carb counting book at the used book store. I didn't realize how many carbs had crept into our daily diet.

Not quite Tuesday here yet but if I wait til it is on the West Coast you in the  rest of the country will have half a day in. I plan to go to the gym. Each morning before doing the gym I take Maggie for about a 1 mile walk. She's just 5 lbs and those little short legs get a lot of exercise in that short walk. She enjoys it and it's good for both of us.

As most of us have discovered it's the getting "to it" that's the hardest. Just do it Marti's friend says. That's what I'm trying to do daily.

Way to go Karen...Yepper...Just do it, treat exercise like a job!
Got called out of spin class last night,  had to run over to the ER cuz they were bringing my MIL via the ambulace...all is well.

I'll be walking today, I'll try and get in at least 4 miles. If it's not windy then I'll hop on my bike and do a 3.5 ride around the country block.

Debbie my mom suffered from congestive heart failure for about 5 years before she passed away. She was mentally very alert right until she died at 95 and 1/2. She wanted to  remain in her home and she did right up until the day she fell and broke her hip while weeding in her yard. One month later she was gone. We did more middle of the night ER runs than I can count. A shot or two of lasix injected would rapidly remore the excess fluid and she would feel great within hours. Seems like laying down in bed brought the excess fluid into her heart  and lungs. I wonder if sleeping propped up would help these people? I do empathize. It is so hard. I totally understand them wanting to remain independent but what a roller coaster ride for everyone who loves them.

Yes, I know mom would do better in her apartment than any where else. I'm trying to encourage the daughters to just let her be and check on her everyday. We can do that, we are a big family.
Mom is quite content doing Soduko, puzzles and writing her memories/story so the kids can have that when she departs from this world. I know she is missing dad who passed away in June. I just want her to be happy and content and I think she will be with us for Christmas one more time.

Your mom sounds like she had a wonderful life with you helping out. Isn't "role reversal" fun?

We convinced Mom that a "life alert necklace or bracelet" was a MUST HAVE if she were to remain alone. She didn't like it' felt like  it was keeping track of her but she goe used to it. She griped about the $40.00 a month it cost when it was doing "nothing. We told her it brought us peace of mind and if she couldn't "afford it" we would pay for it. That shut her up as she had saved and saved almost too much so and would never be able to spend the money she has for a "rainy day." She WAS something else. The older she got the more set in her ways. She kind of lost her "filter" and would just say whatever came to mind! I'm kind of getting a bit like that myself these days. My dad died in 1992 and Mom not until 2007. She was an active, vibrant lady right up until the last. Sure kept us on our toes.

Yes, we have discussed the Medic alert device. That will probably happen soon.
And my MIL sounds a lot like your mom.

You have a great day!

When their doctor says either do this or get someone to stay with you 24/7 it kind of puts it in perspective! I know where I got my stubborn streak.

Good for you! I'm just up and thinking about getting dressed here on the west coast and you've already done it! I  really need to start making the recumbent bike that is sitting upstairs a part of my  exercise routine. Even 10 minutes or so in the morning before I shower on days  that I work would be a good start wouldn't it? I think I'll stick a reminder note on my mirror in the bathroom.  I can watch tv, but can't read while doing any of those things. Motion sickness kicks in real quick!

Good Morning Movers and Shakers!

I read somewhere that whether you walk a mile or run a mile you burn the same amount of calories. Energy in (calories) energy out (exercise.) That's hard for me to believe but it was from a scientific source and not the National Enquirer so I trust it. I have a nice recumbent back sitting in the bonus room collecting dust. We got it after Mike had back surgery and I had my kness replaced. I need to USE it for exercise instead of for a clothing rack!

Why is it so often that if something is convenient and free we don't make the most of it? I have a nice walking trail in my neighborhood. I do use it some but I could as easily get my 4 miles in there each day as going to the gym But for some reason I feel like I'm burning more calories at the gym! The sun is just rising this morning but I plan to get dressed and get to the gym first today.
