The real question!!???
I agree Pat to some extent. If you feel deprived and really want the sweet rolls, cookies and ice cream then you go back to it over and over. So what is the trick to all of this sweet stuff that we crave? And believe me I do crave it sometimes....
It's really moderation and savoring the taste. After 3 bites our taste buds are satisfied and we HAVE to walk away. I mean leave the room if you have to. Run water over the sweet rolls and throw it in the trash. Remember thin people eat these things only it's in moderation and they have the knowledge and BEHAVIOR to stop. That's what we need to learn and to change our behavior. Nothing is "bad food" and that includes the sweets.
Now I will admit I do stay away from ice cream. When I was camping this weekend we had donuts. I ate half of one then went down to the water and went swimming. I had to leave the area where the donuts were...cuz I could have eaten three of them. I put in my mind what a wonderful shrink once told me...he said "Debbie, 3 bites and your taste buds are satisfied, you eat more you are practicing childish behavior"...okay then his advice wasn't what my heart/mind heard and I didn't want to follow that teaching. Now I do. Now I practice mindful eating.
We all now know what our trigger foods/sweets are. Some we have to stay totally away. For me one of those evil foods are: potato chips. Had some this weekend too...with dip! I guess this is my confession time folks. I'm not perfect. I struggle like all of you.
Oh yeah Pat, we will struggle forever. It will never be over for us. I get you! Hugs Debbie

I do NOT agree with that advice at all.
I would say that the days of eating sweet rolls, ice cream, candy, cookies TO EXCESS are over.
But a single serving of ice cream on an occasional basis is not a bad thing for anyone. Neither is an occasional sweet roll, an occasional cookie, etc.
There is absolutely no reason why a weight loss patient that has reached goal can not occasionally indulge in sweets. My program, through Vanderbilt University, even encourages an occasional indulgence.
If one is still tracking their food intake (which I plan on doing for life), they can indulge from time to time. The ONLY danger is if you start doing this on a more than occasional, or a more than a single serving, basis.

First of all, congratulations on your weight loss success.....you should be proud of the great job you've done!
Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, each one of us is different....what might not be a "trigger" food for some, is deadly for others. I know my own body, and I know if I allow myself one cookie, one sweet roll, or a dish of ice cream it will trigger a binge, so I cannot allow myself that indulgence. I've tracked my eating since two months before my surgery and still do daily.
I've not been as successful in losing my weight as others, part of that is due to the fact that I am older (71) so my surgeon says. But he also says that if I am healthy at this weight that is all that matters. I was on 11 medications (including 4 diabetes pills and 2 blood pressure pills) I am now on only 2 pills - prilosec and synthroid. I feel good, I am fairly active (owing to some recent foot surgery), and so I do consider myself successful, even tho' it would be nice to lose another 50 lbs.
Thanks for your comments and best wishes for your continued healthy lifestyle.

Done! Your Ticker:
Hi, Debbiejean - I have a band - I'm the lady who whines once in a while about not
reaching the sweet spot in over 18 months of dedication. Weight loss has stalled at 60 for four months despite 11 fills. No sweet spot.
I went to a different dr at my wl practice in May for a fill and he told me they suggest patients
eat between 800-1000 calories a day (news to me - I eat 1200ish). I said in order for me to even get down that low, the band HAS TO WORK TO HELP ME THATS WHY I GOT ONE.
I was doomed with a 14 cc band - small fills because I get heartburn/reflux etc.
Asked for a flouro to make sure everything ok - he said he didn't think the radiation exposure was warranted. .
He said I'm prob eating more than I think - bring in labels of what I'm eating - here comes the Weigh****chers spiel again.
I've made a number of mistakes in this journey, obviously.
The frustration is boundless - going thru all this and not having the same elations that most
who post on lapband forum have. I have been religious. Although I'm sure a majority have reached my frustration and just don't post.
I emailed with someone who did a revision, but I don't want to do that as I'm still leery at
62 having staples and/or redirection done.
I'm not asking for advice, venting.
Thanks for listening.

Hi Kae,
You vent away girlfriend.
My BF Deb is struggling too with her lap band, we exericse together and our each others biggest cheerleaders.
Yeah...some with bands never get their sweet spot. Some with RNY can eat anything and not get sick so it's a toss up. You gotta know at 3 years plus out, I can eat anything and not get sick 98% of the time. Now the story is different if I eat too fast and not chew good enough.
I will tell you something else. I had a wonderful young woman you had the band. She followed everything religiously. She never found her sweet spot either. She felt like such a failure and was depressed. She deserved to be depressed because she was doing everything right. I finally told her she is not a failure her band was and to get a 2nd opinion. She did with no satisfied results. Finally she went back to her own surgeon and a revision to RNY was decided. She went to surgery...guess what????
Her lap band was NEVER hooked up. She woke up expecting a revision to RNY and her lap band was finally filled. She is working on dealing with a lot of anger right now.

Holy ghost! I think I need to get an xray. I know it's hooked up because I have the other symptoms if I eat too fast, or don't chew hard protein enough, which is rare - sticking, etc.
But something must be wrong.
I've never really pigged out more than 100-200 cals at a time and then very infrequently.
I do think that if I ate what my co-workers ate at lunch - esp when we go out - burgers, fries -
well, I really don't think I would be able to fit it. Actually, I don't desire bad food anymore.
I am so ripe for success. I don't even eat bread anymore but thats
the willpower again.
Thanks for the encouragement - my mother's name was Kae - I like that touch by you -
