What's New for YOU-? Friday

Hi Everyone,
It's time to share your lives. Exciting or boring- it doesn't matter. Just jot a few lines down to let us know what you've been up to....
I'm watching my summer vacation fly past. I spent the first few weeks recovering, and now I'm doing little chores and trips. I went to a casino with my Mom yesterday.... we had fun. Tomorrow I'll be back at school preparing for next year. This is the part of the job that is volunteer. I spend at least one day a week of my summer getting ready for Fall.
I am getting my reading done too. I just read "The Mennonite in the Black Dress"... it was very good. I'm reading the "Dragon Tattoo" book now.That's not the exact title, just part of it.
My brother-in-law is spending the night with us tomorrow night. He and my husband are leaving Saturday for a graduation party for our niece. I'm letting them do the honors.
I think that's it for me... no news is good news! Hope you are keeping cool somehow!

Hi Julia, nice to see you on here this morning.....it's been a fun week with someone new each morning to get us started.

I'm off to work shortly and it's also payday -- hurrah!  I started the process yesterday to get a new top denture.....five visits to the dentist in the next month to complete the process and big $$$.  My current one is over 20 yrs old so it's definately time.   I had hoped to wait until after my trip to Germany in Sept., but it couldn't be put off.  May have to get in some extra hours at work to help.

We had big rain storms yesterday and it's still humid this morning but about 10 degrees cooler.

I am currently reading Almost Heaven by Judith McNaught, and then will get Bel Canto, which is our book club selection for this month.  I also want to read The Soloist.  I love books about the Amish and Mennonite - so will check out the one you read, Julia.  I couldn't get into the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, took it back to the library.

Time to do my foot exercises and make my bed. 

My plans for this summer are few and far between because of the big trip in Sept.

Hi Julia and those to come,

I just finished Dragon Tattoo and can't wait to start the second book in the series. Gary and I went to see the movie, Swedish w/subtitles, and it was excellent. How sad the author died before finishing book #4, but I hear they've hired a ghost writer to use his outlines and partial manuscript to fini**** for all of us dying to know what happens to Lisbeth.

Long, long day at work today, but it's okay. Thankfully I love who I spend my days with and what I do, so it makes even a long day fly by.

Not much else going on, at least nothing that won't sound like I'm just filling space, so it's off to the shower for me. Hope you all have a grand day!

Work remains busy this week because Joint Commission is here at our hospital.
Went home yesterday  and mowed the lawn with hubby, 2 riding lawn mowers and 8 acres to mow! It de-stresses me. Then we sat in the hottub and relaxed. Hubby made shishcabobs on the grill and they tasted wonderful with lots of fresh veggies and pork...had onion breath after wards! LOL

I think tomorrow we are going to South Haven to the beach to relax. Hubby won free movie tickets to Eclipse so we are going tonight and out to dinner. A date night!!

I saw my PCP to check a suspicious skin spot. She did an entire body check which is difficult since I have lots of freckles, moles and oh dear - age spots.  

She complimented my lack of huge sags - HA !!! One big jelly fish in my opinion.

Next week is the dreaded mammogram then bone scan. The last bone scan wasn't too good and the Calcium Rx does not agree with me. She was pleased that I have increased calcium and Vitamin D.

My bariatric center increased calcium to 1500 per day (2 in the morning, 2 with lunch, 2 with dinner) and then the multivitamin at bedtime. They were finding a lot of longtime patients with calcium deficiencies. Took a while to get used to, but I'm doing it ... now that I'm working, I have to take my pills with me to work.

Eileen: I actually had to cut down on the amount of calcium I was taking as my blood work came back with too much calcium.....I only take 3 pills a day now.   My bone density scan came back in the normal range for age 71, and an increase in bone strength of 1.1%.   I must be doing something right!!!!

That's great ... my calcium levels were good too, and my last bone scan was normal, but this is what they were recommending. So it was more pill popping for me. Not that I'm complaining.

They bumped me to 2000 per day, evenly spaced out, 4 D's and 2 multivitamins. No wonder I'm never hungry.

The last bone scan showed a 20% bone loss in my hips. Lovely genetics.

Hi Juliha and all offers:::: havent been here in awhile , been busy its summer and weeds grow as fast as the garden plants and all my flowers do. I have a pretty good handle on the weeds with the help of the preen so far. this week has been a challenge for anything in t he gardens....we have had 3 inches of rain in the last 2 days....hard rain that has knocked some things down and in between rains i have been out standing things up and putting in stakes to tie them too.

My tomatoes are doing fantastic as are the sweet potatoes, green beans and peppers. My squash arent doing well with all the rain. they like it hot and sunny and they are beginning to show the stress. I have gotten quite a lot off of them already tho...My star in the garden this year is my watermelons...just had my first ripe one and it was delishious...many many more out there that arent ripe yet ...i love my watermelon...these are the sugar babies...and one is just right for me and Joe for a day...after while he gets tired of it but not me...just wish there was a way to keep them fresh in the winter...Found my grandmothers reciepe for water melon rind preserves  i use to love them when i was a kid , im going to try and make some and see if they are as good as i remember..will try to make a batch with splenda too instead of sugar...

well it is raining again today....got the plans for an Ark laid out on the wook room wall , plan to start building...anyone want to help ???lol ...
