Learning Experience

Posted: 27 Jan 2011 03:35 AM PST

Not every failure is a learning experience.

But some definitely are.  Ever come back to your senses only to realize that you are half a quart of ice cream into an emotional eating binge -- and it's 3 am?

That is a learning experience.

If it's the 8th night in a row that you've had this realization, maybe this isn't really a learning experience.  You've learned what you need to know -- now you need to put your knowledge into action.

I'm all for learning and continual refinement, but there comes a time when action is really what counts.

Connie, I won't hit you over the head with a 2x4 but I'm sending you a hug! You make me smile girlfriend. Life will get better. Changes are difficult. Right now life seems difficult for a lot of us. I can't wait til Spring! I'm currently fighting winter blues and I just hate it. I miss the sunshine.

Right now it's snowing outside, it's pretty but dang...I want Spring!

Debbiejean,

You are so right on!  All the intention in the world does nothing if we keep acting in ways that are not healthy for us.  Thanks for helping me remember this today.

On Tuesday I learned that my cousin Barbara, whom I had not seen for over 25 yrs, passed away from metastatic cancer.  She lived in Atlanta.  All I wanted to do all morning was eat carbohydrates!  I kept drinking liquids--tea, V-8 juice, more tea, water--and asking for help until the compulsion passed.  For me recovery does not mean the disease is gone; only that it is in remission.   Drinking liquids helps me with the urge to put things in my mouth and is good for me also, as I have kidney problems left over from type II diabetes [pre-RnY].

Thanks to all the posters on this site for their experience, strength and hope.  I helps me every day.

Judy, you are so right on...when ever there is a crisis in my life all I want to do if reach for food to sooth my hurt/pain. But food never fills me up when I go into this downward spiral. Never.
Yes, liquids in this case is a help. I often will heat up V-8 juice and drink that...just having something warm I guess.

Hugs and prayers to you and your family with Barbara's passing. Not seeing your cousin probably hurts a lot, and you know that no amount of food will fill that void. Yes, keep drinking, journal your thoughts today, that might help you. Hugs Debbie

8 nites in a row????  I must be getting better....I wize-up after the 4th nite! LOL  Seriously, sometimes I reach for a 'snack', too full to actually eat..but try anyway...and then huurrrtttt for a couple of hours while everything works thru the system :-(  Makes me wonder how dense can I be?  And who turned the 'smart' button off?
Thanks for the 'vitual' slap upside the head...makes me laugh everytime ;-)
