I am thankful for the fresh produce, I have to make more frequent trips to the grocery store but it's worth it! Happy Friday Mindful Eaters! Hugs Debbie

Have you stopped to think about our grocery store situation lately?  It's not yet spring, here in Michigan, and wonder of wonders, I can go to the grocery store right now and get strawberries, blueberries, cucumbers, melon -- just about any fresh produce I want.  And most of it is reasonably affordable.

It wasn't that long ago that our families would have been eating the last of the canned....well, pretty much everything.  Potatoes and apples, if we had any left in the pantry, would be getting old and toward the end of their shelf life.  The BLT I'm eating would have been more like a BB (bacon and bread).

We spend so much time talking about weight, how we eat too much, and the frustrations of modern life that we may, from time to time, lose sight of just how blessed we are to be able to amble (and by amble, I mean drive) down to the store and pick up beautiful, nutritious food in many, many varieties.

As we head into spring (where, if we were depending on it, the next growing edible would be rhubarb -- and we would be REALLY excited about it!),  work on mindfully putting some gratitude on your plate along with your dinner.  Appreciating your blessings really makes you more mindful of how you are eating.  And if you can cultivate your sense of being blessed along with making some healthy changes to your waistline -- it really is a win-win!!

Oh Debbie the fresh produce we can get now makes eating correctly a lot easier, as I love the fruits that are coming back in season, the ones that are really a gift are strawberries, as they are so low in calories and better than any sweets ever. . .  and soon I will begin preparing for another fresh vegetable garden, which while it won't be until August until I can pick my own tomatoes which I love to eat with sliced red onion and balsamic vinegar, there will be the kind you can buy that taste like a tomato instead of wax. . .  this produce season will surely help me lose that 15 lbs. . .

Hugs Laureen,
I too love the fresh stuff and my Eating Coach's blog about it really did make me feel blessed. I have 3 fresh fruits sitting on my desk for me today.
The man across the hall is leaving us, his last day today and going to another hospital in Grand Rapids where he lives. Everyone will miss him and guess what????
Lots of treats around here today and I'm not going there.
I have fresh fruits and some beef jerky if needed. I can eat when they do but not the cakes, cookies and pies. I will stay strong! I'm making the right choice today here at work.

Funny thing is I do have some sugar at home for the hubby M&M's and Peppermint Patties.
Gotta stay away from those M&M's for sure!

Lucky for me, don't have any of that in my house, however, I have a new roommate moving in this weekend and she will be asked to keep her treats upstairs in her room where I won't be privy to them.  My downfall is chips, I cannot have them, unless they are in a single serving size and of course on limited basis. . .  though boredom will make me reach for a cookie or cake in the office when it is around, though most of the time I can find another alternative, this winter was tough. . .  but that is history and I only have this moment, just had 4 figs. . .  a small banana for later. . .

Debbie,

Always enjoy your posts and today's was especially meaningful to me.  Thank goodness for fruit.  How would I get on without citrus?

I read something recently that I liked:  We are indeed much more than what we eat, but what we eat can nevertheless help us to be much more than what we are."--Adelle Davis

I added this to my  mindfulness list on the wall next to my desk!

TGIF and a good weekend to all.
