new hear
Hi Cheryl! We are practically neighbors, since I'm in East Texas. I'm 53 and have two daughters, ages 29 and 26. My youngest just made me a grandmother this year! Our little Benny will be 1 in June. He's a big factor in my decision to have WLS.
I had an RNY on Feb 22nd, so I'm still a newbie here. But I will tell you that if I never lost more than my current 49 pounds, I would still be happy with my decision. I no longer drink Cokes, I no longer eat sugar (esp chocolate), and I no longer binge eat. That is not to say that I'm perfect or that I don't still struggle with food. All of us do. But slowly I am learning that "food is not my friend" (thanks DebbieJean!). Nor is it my companion or my crutch to lean on at all times, both good and bad. Food is nothing more than fuel for my body. And boy, do I feel better since I started eating for my health and not for my comfort!
You will find a lot of wise women, a lot of acceptance, and a lot of support here. OFF is a great place to be! Keep posting so we can get to know you, okay?
I am Trish, 53, and had my RNY almost five years ago, in August. I have not reached goal, but like my new life, smaller appetite, and binge sugar free. This forum is like a family to me. I have friends all over the country, and love sharing my daily journey with everyone here.
I am not familiar with the sleeve procedure, but can assure you that we are here to support you in this journey.
Hugs,
Trish

I am 50 and I was feeling those same type feelings before my surgery I had the sleeve the first 6 months we adhere to gradually introducing foods but overall I kinda think its like the lapband but no fills. No matter what surgery you are having I am sure it will be one of the many most positive things you done for yourself
