Another Newbie for OFF and a TMI Question
Hello everyone. My name is Cindi. I'm in the track for WLS in late July or August time frame. I'm 55. During part of the year I live in Maine and part of the year I live in Texas. While in Maine I'm in a log cabin on a lake. While in Texas I am in my RV usually volunteering at a wildlife refuge. I'm retired and with careful spending should be able to continue this lifestyle for a few more years.
I'm hoping to have a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. I have several medications that I have to take regardless of weight loss so I'm choosing this method due to the absorption issues with RNY. Lapband is out because I have severe allergies so no foreign bodies in the body.
So here's my TMI question. I think I'm finally in menopause, have not had a period in two years. Of course I did have a DNC and ablation to achieve that. Did any of you experience renewed periods after weight loss surgery? I am assuming that since estrogen is stored in fat cells that one could experience increased estrogen again after WLS? Need to hear from the OFF crowd!

Hi there,
I had ablation in my early forties, and did still get a period, albeit short and easy one day thing. After losing a hundred pounds, I finally completed menopause, my last period being in November 2007. My doctor confirmed my completion during an annual exam. He told me that if I start with any bleeding now, I have to get in touch with him, as that would not be a good thing.
But, as for the increase in estrogen, be mindful of that, because our emotions take a tailspin during the early months of weight loss post-op. This is because of the increase in hormones, not to mention the changes in lifestyle and missing foods.
I hope I made sense, because my brain is not firing properly this afternoon.
Glad you are here.
Hugs,
Trish

Hi Cindi,
Just wanted to welcome you here, as I had a hysterectomy prior to WLS, though I did not have a full one and kept my ovaries, I can't give you a good response to your question. Though the estrogen issue was felt emotionally by me.
Good for you for taking charge of your life by choosing to have a procedure done that will ultimately add some quality to your life.
Best wishes, Laureen

Hi Cindi,
I'm new to all this and also on track for WLS the end of July-early August time frame. Sorry I can't help with your question, I had a partial hysterectomy 6/02. I'm 50 yrs old now. But you do bring up an interesting point and now I'm wondering about the hormonal thing.
I have other questions like, will my glasses still fit after losing fat in my face?
Oh Dear Sweet Baby Jesus! What next? LOL!
Stay in touch and add me as a friend. Maybe we can walk this path together.
Hugs and stuff,
Kristi
