Update on my mom
First of all thanks for all the messages of good wishes and prayers. I just got to my apt from the hospital and am way tired. I apologize for not answering each and every one but I really need to get to bed.
My mom was diagnosed with pneumonia. she is on IV antibiotics and breathing treatments. They may let her go home by Wednesday. The nursing home can do everything the hospital does except IV's. I know she would prefer to be at the nursing home so I hope she will not need the IV antibiotics by Wednesday and can get back to a familiar place. I am here mainly to make sure that things get done that need to be done. In the ER they put her on oxygen and she kept telling them it didn't feel right. they would check it and her ox. sat. rates would keep falling. She finally said...I am telling ya'll this thing is on backwards. Well, it was. so all that time instead of blowing up her nose it was blowing on her upper lip. That's why I feel I need to be here. It is scary what some hospitals do or don't do. They are so short handed and under paid that you really need and advocate looking out for you.
Agian thanks and I'll keep in touch.

When I had pneumonia in October, they gave me breathing treatments, which I was able to continue at home with albuterol prescription and a nebulizer. It really helped me get more comfortable breathing overall. Check to see if they can continue that at the nursing home.
Still praying for her and you.
Hugs,
Trish

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

She can get breathing treatments at the nursing home. She had pneumonia a couple of months back and they treated her entirely at the home. This time the fever indicated a need for IV antibiotics and that can not be done outside the hospital. I am hoping that as soon as the fever is down she will be able to return to the nursing home and continue treatment there. She had a good night last night and her fever was 100 this morning so that is much better. She just sounds awful, a hacking cough. She is weak and short of breath which is to be expected. I think she will be okay.
Thanks for the prayers
Linda, my prayers continue to be with you and your Mom.
When my Mom got very bad we had 24 hour aides with her, even though my Sis and I were there. When she went in the hosp. the aides were right there. Hospital staff is overworked. They don't have the time to give proper care. I thank God Mom was able to afford the extra help. Even when Sis and I were there, those CNA's were a Godsend!

one definitely needs an advocate in the hospital. I came in this morning and her breakfast had been brought but it was out of her reach and still covered with a heavy cover. They just left it and said they would be back to assist her. She can feed herself all they needed to do was uncover it and roll the table to her bed. Her coffee and oatmeal were cold. I have been here an hour and no one has ever come to "assist" her. The nurses here seem knowledgeable and compitent.
