Happy Wednesday; a big day for me.
Hi y'all:
I'm ready to go to bed, but just wanted to get us started. Besides, today is my big day. Seven years ago today at this time, I was actually in bed, sound asleep, waiting for my big day. I had my surgery on June 29, 2004, after waiting a year ... insurance folks in the office lost my records and I had to redo my bloodwork, my exam with their internist (and they wanted me to redo my behaviorist exam, but I had my psychologist call their guy instead). I went in not afraid, not worried, just ready to do and get started. I was supposed to have surgery at 8 a.m.; got there at 7 a.m. to check in (a coworker dropped me off) and then they took blood. About a half hour later, this nurse came in and said, bluntly, "You can't have surgery because your potassium is low." I just started crying. I wonder how I would get home. I had no money for a cab; no one was with me; I couldn't call anyone because I didn't have phone numbers with me.
Then another nurse came back in and asked why I was so upset, so I told her what the other woman said (and she was there); I told her I didn't know what to do, I really needed to get this surgery ... sob, sob, sob. The more senior nurse gave me a hug and said, "You'll still get the surgery, you'll just have to wait a couple of hours until we get your potassium up." Well, I said, "she said ...." and I pointed to the other nurse. Anyway, I had my surgery at noon instead, and the rest is history. Best decision I ever made.
Wish I could say all my problems have gone away, but my arthritis is worse (a progressive disease); my knee replacement (two on one knee) hasn't worked, but still, I'm happy I did this. I have regained weight, but I'm determined to get it off. My main problem is lack of exercise: would like to walk, but it hurts too much. Not going to whine about this. You've all heard it already.
Anyway, I'm off today. I have an appointment for med refill at the pain clinic later this morning, then I have some running around to do, but otherwise, not much planned. Have to go to Petco, CVS and a couple other places.
Not much new at work; it was pretty quiet tonight. Hope all is well with you. Have a good one. I'll check back. I'm going to bed.
Obviously, I was too tired when I wrote this ... because I thought it was Thursday ... sorry, I get confused with split days off sometimes. yes, it's actually Wednesday.

Good Morning Eileen,
Isn't it Wednesday? You are eager to get this week done, aren't you? LOL
Happy Surgiversary. Wow, your story about your surgery was interesting. My surgery was uneventful, but a friend who was having hers the same day as mine had to come back a few days later, because her surgeon had an emergency that day. Mine went through as scheduled, though a little later than usual. I got rid of a lot of my comorbidities, but did some regain before reaching goal. I can't exercise much because of the chronic pain I experience.
Anywho, today I am working a few hours at the hospital. Then, I hope to get to the gym for a swim. I have been planning to do that for weeks, but have been too tired and unmotivated after work.
This evening, it is the Phillies/Red Sox game, which was awesome last night. Cliff Lee pitched his third complete game shut-out in a row.
Have a great day.
Hugs,
Trish

Trish, I didn't even realize it until Candy pointed it out ... I'm so out of it. One day looks like the next. I don't do anything other than work and watch baseball, sometimes go out to the store. Pretty boring. The only difference is do I have to work or not. Today was an off day.
I will watch the Phils-Red Sox game for awhile (it's about to start), then switch to the White Sox/Rockies. My Sox better start hitting with runners on.

I have about the same life, except I walk my dog, sew, and crochet or knit, in addition to work and watch baseball. My Phillies beat the Red Sox two in a row. Tonight a 25 year old rookie kept the Red Sox down to one run. Tomorrow, we go for a sweep.

Trish

Congratulations, Eileen! I love hearing the stories of those who are ahead of me on this path. Seven years is a long time!
Last night I attended a support group meeting here in FL. It is run by a social worker who had RNY 8 yaers ago and the topic was dealing with stress - the whole idea that the things that stress us may not change, but we can very consciously change how we respond to those stressors. Even the simple things like deep breathing, visualization or using pictures to calm us...good reminders for us all. I also got a recipe which I posted separately - sounded good and very easy (my kind of cooking) so I made it last night.
Just working today. I got the car repairs handled yesterday and the convertible is sailing along now. They ended up taking about 20% off the total bill which was of course appreciated!
I may head out for a walk before it gets too hot. I still have to take care of this knee - I strained it while exercising the other day. It's not the joint, I've decided, but more of a muscle strain along the side/back of the knee. Icing helps and I take some Tylenol when I think of it. This too shall pass!
Grateful for the little community I have found here! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Good morning Eileen and OFF family to post.
Hugs Eileen, your weight will come off in time, health comes first always.
Today is my last day and off to Up North tomorrow morning, I won't be back on line to this forum until Wednesday. I'm so looking forward to relaxing and just chilling. I plan on taking lots of walks and swim even if the water is cold! Got lots of books to read, I'm a fast reader and can read a Danielle Steele book in one day.
I went and got a mani and pedi yesterday, yep I pampered myself.
Yesterday got caught up on all my filing and I'm set to get out of here at 4:30!
I'm asking for prayers for one of my special volunteers, she helps me in the office, I adopted her as a mom...never can have enough moms. I just adore her and she is having open heart surgery tomorrow. May God give her a speedy recovery and guide the surgeon's hands. She told me it was pretty scary that the doctor will be holding her heart in his hands!
Hugs and prayers for all those in need. Debbie

Morning all. Sober 239 days and so proud of me.
Had 3 friends come by yesterday from old town of Ois, MA. I saw Tim, now 28, on the day he was born and now is over 6 feet. We had a really nice visit. They are here for a family reunion cruise leaving today for Bahama's.
Lots of rain yesterday and more to come. Yeah we need it so. Grass is green and lush.
Congrat's to Eileen, post is a wonderful thing. Life is changed with WLS. Not everything is fixed, but we know we can take back our lives. Wow those toes are hard to fix Trish. I have one hammertoe and it is bad enough. Hubby has 10 and every doctor he has seen wanted to rebreak and fix them. He got his 1st 10% from VA for his feet. Lynn glad you are enjoying your FL time. Hoping we can really see each other next week. So strange to be so busy lately. Hope my SS check comes soon so I can continue to pursue getting the SS replacement card and then be able to open a bank acct and get a FL ID card. Prayers please to help me fight.
Enjoy the day all. Hope grammylew is fever free. Hugs, Monica

Monica, I don't know they told you at SS about your first check -- but it actually takes a couple months....sorry about that. Hope you are able to get a new card.
Not much happening with me -- had pre-op physical for my toe surgery yesterday. I had PCP look at the lump on my back and he said it was a sabaceous (sp) cyst and needs to be taken off -- so he will do that on July 11th in his office. I have a positive attitude that it is nothing bad, however they will send it in to be tested.
I'm at work and need to get busy.
Have a wonderful Wednesday,
