Belly and Gastric Bypass

 Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in awhile...still recovering a bit and getting back to work full time, plus this awful heat have kept me busy and tired, but I have been reading the forum when I can.

I am doing better. The post-surgery depression has begun to lift. I have tried to walk, if not everyday, then at least 4-5 days a week, and at this point think I'm up to about a mile or so. I'm not able to eat a lot....maybe 2 oz. a meal at best...so I am still drinking lots of protein drinks and shakes. My estimate (my doctor's scale vs. my scale) is that I have lost about 26 lbs., and I will be 6 weeks post-op Tuesday. The gurgling is still there...I was so embarrassed in a meeting the other day! My doctor continues to say will get better. I have a meeting with the university's executives tomorrow and plan to have nothing to eat or drink before I go, hoping the gurgling will hold off!

So...thanks to all of you for "taking me in" - this is such a wonderful group. I guess the only question I have is, when did you notice that your stomach started shrinking a little? Everyone at work keeps saying that my pants are too big - and they are, in the behind and legs. But today I tried on several pair of the next size down (I have 3 sizes stashed in my closet) and they are too tight in the stomach. I realize the surgery causes some swelling,  but when I was at this weight before I could wear the one size down, so I am kind of concerned...any thoughts appreciated.

Know of my thoughts for each of you and take care!

Sheila

Hi Sheila!

Glad to see you back on-line today.  I don't know if it's the same for everyone, but my waist and belly are the slowest areas to lose inches.  My hips and thighs are down at least a size lower than my abdomen and waist.  It's a little frustrating, I know!  Sometimes I look at my belly in the mirror and despair of it ever being flat again.

But I think you are doing fantastic!  26 pounds in 6 weeks?  Whoo hoo!  Celebrate and don't worry about the things you can't control.

When I look at my body, I think that it should look like it did ten years ago when I was at this weight.  It doesn't.  My waist is still too big even though I'm taking size ten jeans  -  thankfully, they have spandex!
I don't think that my waist will ever shrink to the  size that it was.  I have recently joined the Y in order to fight my large waist, but I'm not convinced that even aerobics and Zumba will help.

Shelia, sounds like your are normal and right on track.
Yep the same for me when I was at your stage, the swelling will go down in your tummy soon.
The gurgling will get better too. Don't be embarrassed when your tummy gurgles around others. Make a light moment of it and just say "Well Wilma is talking to me again"!

I remember my boyfriend telling me to get new pants and we went shopping at Meijers. Found elastic pants and went from a size 28 to size 14 in that style.
Now I just go to the Salvation Army and get clothes. Hugs Debbie

Good morning Sheila.....sounds like you are doing great!! That is a lot of weight in that period of time. You are also losing inches. Hope you measured yourself before surgery....you will be amazed at the inches dropping off!!

I have always had most of my  weight in my tummy area. I will never have a little enough waist to satisfy me! I need plastics but can't afford it it so here I am!

I wish you the very best.....you are doing awesome....keep it up!!

Hugs....connie d

Look up "Omentum" and see if that doesn't help with understanding the belly fat issue.

As to the gurgling, some stop quickly, other of us have gurgled loudly for years.  Humor helps, I have been known to look at others and frown as if they did it, or explain that ithe entertainment isn't much but it is free.  Sip water (warm water works best for me) when in a quiet meeting, it tends to calm the beast.

Good luck!

Hey, be glad it's just gurgling; I'm always afraid I'm going to fart in the office when I'm near my coworkers. That's my biggest problem. Even my non-WLS coworkers have their tummies talking to them at times.
