Something else the surgeon never told me before WLS

Amen Laureen, we have choice and we go down fighting. Even with my adhesion's popping up over and over again I still would have my revision. I'm healthier anyway, no hypertension, Gastric reflux, apnea, my back feels better. I look on the bright side.
Yep, I'd still have WLS!

I had my surgery at the same hospital as Laureen, and was given all the risks ahead of time.  I was already in recovery for alcoholism, so I knew that risk already.  I did relapse with my alcoholism, but I knew the risk ahead of time.  My surgeon did my RNY open, and he examined my gall bladder while in there.  I did develop an ulcer post op, but had them before my surgery too, so that didn't phase me.

Sorry you weren't warned ahead of time.  Hope your cousin gets better soon.

Hugs,
Trish

It is a common thing with any rapid weight loss. I had mine out 2 years after my band. There is not much you can do to prevent it. Not everyone has this issue. It is a pain but once it is out it feels a whole lot better. Mona

When I had RNY 6+ years ago, my surgeon told me it was routine for him to remove the gallbladder at the same time as most peole develop stones and this prevents another surgery.  I had no problems with that decision.

He also spoke about how alcohol effects our body after the surgery and I didnt drink for about the 1st year but then started again.  Never should have.

Hi OFF buddies,

Wow.  I have learned so much from this post.  Thank you all for all the thoughtful feedback.

Vickie, I didn't even know there was such a thing as the Molina Band.  However, I was always weary of putting anything plastic inside my body because of what happened when I had an IUD many years ago.  The thing triggered an allergic reaction and had to have it removed.  You are lucky the Molina band did not kill you.

I have no regrets about getting the RNY.  The benefits far outweigh the difficulties, as the quality life, health and looks have improved 100%.  However, I would have liked to have had more information regarding complications down the line.  Just sayin'

Have  blessed day ya'll,

Maria
