Peri-menopause bleeding question
I've been bleeding for 2 weeks. Is that par for the course during this peri or pre-menopausal shindig? I've had months with no period, 2 months with 2 periods, and now this. I don't have a gynecologist. Bad me. I do have an appt as a new patient with one in July, but am wondering if I should call to see if Ishould be seen sooner under the cir****tances.
Blessings, Jill

OMG, Jill! I'm having the exact same thing happen! Isn't is annoying? I've been having a period for over 2 weeks now, but it's more like spotting than a regular period. Sometimes I go a couple of months without one. I never know what to expect. My ob/gyn didn't seem too concerned when I saw her last October. She did say if I start having really heavy bleeding for more than 2 weeks to call her. So far, that hasn't been the case, so I'm just waiting to go back for my annual checkup in the fall. I sure am ready to be done with it!
I think you are probably okay to just wait for your appt in July, but if something feels wrong, then CALL! Better safe than sorry, and the office RN should be able to answer your questions.

Hi Jill,
I did the exact same thing and thank God I had an OB/GYN. I also had lots of scar tissue/adhesion's from another surgery and I had to have a complete hyst and after wards I felt so much better. I know we are all different but I say find yourself an OB and make that apt. You will probably have to wait to get in any way.
How is your iron?

What you are experiencing is totally normal for peri-menopause. Mine was a little different because of extreme heavy bleeding. I would wear two tampons and a maxi pad and still bleed through and stain my bedsheets and my clothes. I switched gynecologists at the time, and started going to Dr. Jerrold Snyder, whose office is at St. Mary's. He did some tests, and then performed an endometrial iblation, which is when a doctor goes in and burns away the lining of the uterus. It's an outpatient procedure, which has little recovery time, because it is not as invasive as a hysterectomy. In some patients they never bleed again. In me, I had some spotting which lasted a day, when I bled. I stopped getting bleeding after November 2007, so I am done all that fun. He confirmed I was done during one of my annual exams, but told me that if I start bleeding to contact him immediately. I had that procedure when I was in my early 40s, because it was before my divorce, which occurred when I was 42. I highly recommend Dr. Snyder. He is wonderful. I wish he had delivered all my kids.
Finally, don't put off these gynecological exams. My sis-in-law stopped going to the gynecologist after my niece was born. I found that out when my niece was 16. I lovingly kicked her butt. I understood why there were many years she didn't go, they had no medical insurance. But, she had the insurance for many years before I learned of her laxness. She went to Dr. Snyder, and her pap smear showed precancerous cells. He sent her to an oncological gynecologist who performed a hysterectomy. She was grateful she went for that exam. I was grateful I kicked her butt, in love.
I don't know what Dr. Snyder's waiting period for an appointment is, but I'll gladly give you his number if you want to try. 215-750-7771
