I planned on staying just shy of 2 weeks, but I feel well enough I'm on my way home today (day 8). I will return in 3-5 weeks for a follow up.

I had a TT, not an LBL. I also did not have access to a recliner, so I got a foam wedge pillow from Amazon to use on the couch and in bed. Great purchase!

Thanks for sharing. I know what you mean about the scary part. I did not consider it until I stumbled nto the plastic surgery and read people like Gwen, NYMom and another person. Inspired me to consider.

how many days did you stay? I figure we make a second trip after my consultation and my husband and girls (16 and 14) can have fun and come back and check on me! I grew up in NY but in White Plains and Cross River (near Katonah). My sister lives in Averill Park which is upstate.

i am glad you are feeling well and have a good trip home!! Congratulations for having it over!!!!

I'm not from D.C. either. I'm actually from upstate NY (about an hour south of Ottawa). I see Dr. M tomorrow morning and then we'll make the 10 hour drive home. I had originally planned to fly home on Saturday but I'm feeling plenty well enough to ride in the car.

I was very scared for this surgery, but it's been SO much easier than I had imagined it would be.

Erin, Thanks for sharing your experience. I am going for a consultation to see Dr Michaels in April. I have chatted privately with Gwen and NY Mom. After seeing Dr. Michaels work I felt no other Dr would do (I live in CT). We are taking out kids to D.C. To see the White House and monuments and scheduled my consultation. Long time coming... my RNY in 2008! Everything concealed beautifully in clothing lol but not on the beach etc!!! Hopefully I will meet up with Gwen in D.C. She was gracious to offer. My husband is still waiting on White House tour appt. And asked me to wait a bit to make any plans. But Dr Michaels is set and it better not be a conflict!

i am glad you are feeling better day by day! The tail bone pain sound like something that will take time. I broke mine when my daughter was born and it took time to heal. I never would have guessed the LBL would do that.

Yup. :) Ditto for my med support. They had a schedule and gave me meds on time until I said, "You know.. let's try half dose" or "how about I skip this one." Worked great.

I second the having someone manage your meds. I literally could not have managed them myself at first. It was also crucial that my med support didn't just wait around for me to say "OW!" Before he got me meds. He timed them until the point where I could say "Hey, I think you can lay off". He's still timing my Lovenox injections and antibiotic for me.

I recommend that you start reading through previous posts here - a lot of people have shared their experiences and there's great information to be found. I read through a lot of posts pre-op and felt as prepared as I could be.

I see you expect to get in and out of a bed post-op, that wasn't possible for me until maybe a week after surgery. I needed help to get in and out of a recliner, but getting into bed was too painful.

I could shower with my drains, and I used a lanyard to clip them to so they wouldn't dangle in the shower.

I had a shower stool to sit on and also a toilet seat riser - both were very helpful.

I had someone else manage my medication in the beginning, this was very valuable for me since I was too out of it to deal with it on my own. If you must do your own meds, make sure you have a timer and a place to write what you take and when you take it. Otherwise you risk pain or over-medication.

I needed straws to drink, since I couldn't comfortably drink otherwise. I had a lot of protein shakes post-op since I had a very renewed sense of restriction and wasn't interested in solid food, but needed to keep my protein up for healing.

I used pantyliner for protecting my incision lines once I got my compression garment 8 days post-op.

Keep ahead of the pain - having to play catch up is the worst.
