If going straight to measuring to track your progress instead of watching calories works for you, definitely do that.
My only caveat would be that at three weeks out a majority of post-ops check in with calorie counts way under 1000/day. I've seen a lot here over the years and those who are most successful in general are at 600/day and lower.
You might consider checking into the "What are you eating today" menu threads. If nothing else it's an opportunity to see what others are eating early out. There are some here in maintenance who must eat less than 1000/day just to prevent regain.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll get it all figured out. It's actually good that you're working through these things while you're in your honeymoon phase and not as a result of a regain.
Hi Thank you for responding back to me it means so much. I had my rny hernia repair repair July 3 so three weeks tomorrow and I am feeling a little better. All of a sudden saturday a fog kind of lifted probably the oxycodone I was on for the first few days. Jk I'm curious about your screen name me being from Boston, Ma I like it. Thank you for your suggestions keep them coming. ?? Andrea
Here a little update: I have been watching what I eat and logging everything in MyFitnessPal. I still hover around 1000 calories. I'm wondering if I may be measuring things incorrectly but that's what I keep coming up with. Either way, my weight is still around 203 - 201 BUT my waist has shrunk. It was a 47 inches and now it's 44-43 inches. That's pretty good. I think for now I will measure myself all over and keep track of that for a while. I so appreciate all of you!

You've gotten some good replies over in the other forum. Personally if I could have eaten everything at three weeks I never would have known it. Because I didn't even try. But my surgeon doesn't allow solid food until week nine so this may not apply to you.
At any rate, what does your surgeon's plan have you doing at three weeks and are you following that? Some surgeons have some strange ideas about post op eating and include things like oatmeal and cream of wheat and such. If you're surgeon is one of those, try nixing the carby stuff.
You're not too far into this to make changes now that will help you later. Good luck and please keep posting until you get it all figured out. Posting these struggles help so many people and when you consider the lurkers you've got quite an audience.
Take care; you absolutely can figure this all out and now is the time to do it. =)
How long were you on the purée stage. I'm 8 days out from the Rose procedure and can't seem to eat solids. If I do I can hold two or three small bits...chewed very very well!

thank you for the info... i appreciate your input. :)
I don't think they are giving you the right info. I just had to have a revision from sleeve to RNY because my esophagus was burned from even mild usage of pain medications for arthritis. Not only was it burned, my reflux was so bad that I had to stop eating at least 5 hours before going to bed.

Less than 3 weeks ago Hiatal Hernia repair and gastric bypass
Tons of scar tissue!!!
Make sure you find a doctor who specializes not only in weightloss surgery but someone who is good with other aspects of surgery. I had to go to a specialist and I am happy I did. I have super small incisions that are virtually painless. My surgery, due to the mess inside of me took 5 hours. He said he may have to open me but because he was very killed did everything laparoscopically.
Good luck with everything :)
My journey is a long one: 2004 Lapband, 2010 Sleeve, and less than 3 weeks ago Hiatal Hernia repair and gastric bypass due to prior surgeries.
I feel I can eat everything and I'm less than 3 weeks out of surgery. My weight also stopped coming off. I started at a lower weight - 225 when I had my consultation and 210 on the day of surgery and currently 203.
I'm a bit frustrated because I have been doing this rollercoaster for years now and feel that because I have already eaten lower calories for years, losing weight (I want to drop about 40 more pounds) is virtually impossible.
Pamisue,
I am in the same boat. I still have my band (installed in 2007), but it is causing problems (possible slip) and I have experienced significant regain.
I've had a consult with a doctor specialized in the sleeve and saw a DS doctor just this afternoon. Earlier this week, I attended the sleeve seminar/support group.
The meetings with the doctors have been great for learning more about technical issues like surgery risk and recovery, vitamin supplementation, potential long-term problems, and non-negotiable lifestyle changes each procedure requires.
The sleeve patient group is a supportive bunch. I was disappointed, though. Discussions centered on regain and dieting. It could have been my lap band group from ten years ago. That has driven me to look into DS as an alternative.
I look forward to learning more at the DS support group next month.
I almost made a decision before I was ready. The sleeve doctor got everything moving in a hurry after my consult. Before I left his office, I had an initial meeting with his dietician and was scheduled for more meetings with his her and his PA. Within a couple days, I was scheduled for band removal. I will be cancelling the band removal because I need more time to consider my options.
I guess my only advice is to resist being rushed.
At this stage, I feel frustrated because I hate to be undecided about anything. I just feel like I can't come to a conclusion before I've learned more. I'll probably post here to see how people feel about their sleeve and DS revisions.
I would love to know how your consult goes and if you any advice for others like me who are working on revisions.
