How do you disguise your crushed meds from your taste buds?

A nurse once shared to try mixing a little bit of sugarfree jelly with the crushed meds.  It works better than anything else I have tried, plus keeps the little bits together, get it down in 1 swallow.  The first few days I tried lots of different fluids to mask them.  Lemon crystal light actually made the taste worse.  Try the jelly thing.  Hugs, Kathy

I've taken meds before in a spoonful of sugar free pudding, and it seems to work pretty good.  I don't actually crush my meds, though.  My surgeon didn't seem to think it was necessary.  I'm not sure why some docs think it is and some don't.  Maybe it depends partly on how big the pill is?

Things with a thick texture and strong flavor work best.  I did okay with sf chocolate pudding and lemon yoplait light yogurt.

I started swallowing pills in the hospital.  If they are small enough you may be able to swallow instead of crush.  Check with your surgeon, if you haven't already.  I imagine they taste pretty gross crushed.

I didn't start in the hospital to take my meds but I am now 1.2 weeks out and have taken them just fine. I was instructed that if the med is the size of an M & M it is fine to take. I have not had any problems. Both of my medications are time release capsules.

I have a real problem with this ... totally gross to swallow crushed pills.  I asked my nutritionist if cut the pill into small pieces can i just swallow and she said yes.  That's much better.  Some meds can't be cut (like time released so be careful).  I only take a bp pill and occasional anitbiotic so these are safe to cut to small pieces.  good luck

We can only absorb about 500 mg of calcium at one time.  If you're taking three pills at once, you may not be getting all the calcium you think you are.
