Protein while in the hospital

Just wondering what they give you in the hospital to drink/eat.  I worked with postop bariatric patients, but on the night shift.  So I am not for sure what they got on their meal trays.  I think it was just clear liquids.  What do they give us for protein?

I got nothing for 24 hours, then after that pureed foods. Plans vary. My surgeon said the initial focus in the hospital is not protein per se. I was given pureed meat. I did not eat it. I ate Jell-O.

You'll likely not get enough protein for a little while after surgery. That's just natural. But again, plans vary.

I had nothing the day of surgery.  They did say to drink water, 1 oz at a time.  The next morning, they brought in Crystal ligh****ered down cranberry juice and jello.  I had that for breakfast & lunch!  I went home after lunch, so I don't know.  I thought I saw something in the hospital saying protein drink the next day.

Most surgeons willput you on lactaded ringer rather than just a saline IV. As explained to me during my last hospital stay, is that the ringers contain protein and othernutrients.

Day of surgery absolutely nothing.. not even water.

Next day was clear liquids after leak test.  Watered down juice and broth and they brought in a small container of protein powder to mix into those (yuck).  Next day was progressed to full liquids and was given yogurt, thinned juice, protein powder, small portion of a protein shake and cream of wheat on my tray.  I mixed the juice with the hot cereal and added some of the protein powder and ate some very small bites of that.  Also drank the small protein shake they prepared.

Wow, these are some gererous surgeons. I had my surgery done in a Military hospital, there was no tray for RNY onlt Lap band pts. I was given water and glucerna! That is all. At home I am still on nothing but full liquid, cryatal light ( which does not work with my stomach now) chicken broth, and high protien, low carb slimfast! I AM SICK OF SLIMFAST! I cant wait for my 2 week appt so I can go to what they call pureed foods. Good Luck!

They gave me a clear protein drink called Cytosport.  They gave me one each day I was there and it had 40 grams of protein each.  They brought me some broth but I don't eat meat and all they had was beef and chicken.  So I skipped that.  They gave me diluted cranberry juice, only in small amounts.  They gave me sugar free popsicles and ice chips and water.
