SPLENDA--it didnt start out as a POLL, but I guess it is
How much do you rely on Splenda? Do you use it to cook with, sweeten iced tea or other drinks, do you use it in shakes? Do you feel that you lean to heavily on Splenda to flavor or to make food edible, in your taste? What do you use Splenda or other artificial sweeteners on or in? Very curious to find out how everybody uses it. Also, what's your opinion of Splenda and other artificial sweeteners? Is it o.k. to use it as much as we need to, or should we try at all cost to avoid it? What's your perspective on the usage of these and RNY?
I use it very little... once every few weeks maybe. I don't sweeten any drinks and I don't generally cook anything that requires sugar, so I simply usually have no need for it. Since I don't dump (for all practical purposes, anyway), the rare times that I have some cereal or something and want just a bit of sweetening, I use 1/4- 1/2 a teaspoon of real sugar. As with butter vs. margarine, I prefer a smaller amount of real sugar to any artificial sweetener because I think it's healthier.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Anything I need sweetener for, I use Splenda. At the moment, however, my taste for sweets is at a minimum...they make me sick.
Aspertame was developed as a neurotoxin, and is a known cause of migraines. I avoid it at all costs.
It is also thought that the more you use artificial sweeteners, the more your body craves the actual sugar, so you tend to eat more.

I always used Sweet 'N Low, even before surgery... however, now that I've read all the negative press about it and a lot of other artificial sweeteners, I've switched to Truvia. Took some getting used to, but it's not bad. I don't use sweeteners all that often anyway.

Lately I'm using it a lot. But I can freely say that it took me three years to get through the last 200 packets
I've been using it lately in my Fage yoghurt with berries. Yum. But tthat's about it. I don't use it in much. In the occasional hot tea.

I chased my dreams, and my dreams, they caught me!

I tend to use Truvia (Stevia)... If I am BAKING, I will use a mixture of Splenda and Truvia but other than that I do not use Splenda... (I drink my Ice Tea plain with only lemon, drink water and do not drink any coffee beverages).
On the rare occasion I drink tea I use a wee bit of Agave nectar or just a tiny bit or real honey (less than 1/4 tsp.)
Warmly,
Jackie

My body seems to have a bad reaction to splenda and I can't use it! If I have a normal amount of splenda, over the next day or two my blood pressure seems to drop and my speech slurs and I feel exhausted like I am going to pass out. I can't seem to find too many other people that this happens to, though there are a few people out there on the internet who have bad reactions to it. It's so strange. I know it's not in my head, because sometimes I will drink something not knowing it has splenda in it, then I will experience those symptoms, and will go searching for the offending item. Each time I feel that way I find out what I was drinking did have splenda/sucralose in it. It makes things a little bit more challenging post surgery. I had been excited to try unjury that I heard everyone raving about, bought a few packets, and found out they had splenda in them. darn it.
I don't have the same reaction to aspartame, though it does give me a bit of indigestion. I find for me personally it is best to stay away from artificial sweeteners the best that I can.
