Two Days PostOp- Stomach Gurgling?

Hi, everyone-

I am two days post op and feel great considering my insides have been rearranged. I haven't taken any pain meds today and don't really have much pain other than sensitivity at the incisiions sites and some muscle soreness. My only question is that every time I take a sip of my protein drink or crystal light, my pouch is super active with lots of gurgling and I can feel lots of gas moving around. I just wanted to make sure this is normal. I am not getting as much protein/liquids as I need to as I feel my abdomen is so fulll of gas. I have taken 2 Gas X strips but they only seemed to work temporarily. Suggestions? Is this normal? I know I just underwent major surgery and that things are going to take some time to work themselves out so I am not panicing... I am just curious if y'all experienced this too when you were fresh out of surgery.

Thanks!!
Holly

The gurgling is completely normal.

I'm 2 1/2 years out and my stomach STILL gurgles sometimes (unfortunately, loudly) for no apparent reason.

As for the gas, that's normal too. The best thing for it is really to walk as much as possible. It will be gone soon.

Congrats on your surgery.=)

I am still pre-op, but have read many post-ops talk about it.  This is completely normal as is the gas.  From what I have read, they cannot stress enough to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk.  Your water and liquid intake should help move some of the gas along and the walking finishes it out.  I have seen suggestions of doing GENTLE side bends.  Not all the way over, but a little to each side to move it around GENTLY.  Don't want to pop a stitch!

Thanks for your replies. I had read mostly about trapped gas that hurts. I definitely felt that- it took a little while for the spots to work their way out of my shoulders and clavicle area but they did in time. This is more of just bloating and gurgling in the pouch/intestines which I hadn't heard too much about. Fortunately, I am burping and passing when it builds up (sorry if thats' tmi!) So, so far so good. I am just glad to know that gurgling is not uncommon.

Thanks!
Holly

Hi!  Congrats on your surgery!  I am 8 days post op, and the gurgling noise is completely normal.  As for the gas,  I found the more I walked around, the better it got.  By day 3 or 4 I was passing gas, and couldn't be happier about farting.  LOL....

Wishing you a good recovery!

Hey Holly
yep, you are checking in under the "normal" category.

For the gas bubbles/pockets, walking is the best thing to get those moving and broken up.

As for the noise:  I sounded like an industrial revolution for about 3 months post op.  LOL, I can remember times lying in bed and my cat would be staring at my tummy, ****ing her head left and right ,trying to assess if the noise meant friend or foe.

Good luck on your exciting new journey.
