fluids
Yes, with one exception. If you drink coffee (even decafe) or other caffeinated beverages, my sugeon recommends you double the water. If you had an 8 oz cup of decafe coffee, he recommends drinking an extra 16 oz of water that day. Caffeine tends to dehydrate some through more urination, thus the reason for more water. Dehydration is the number one reason for going back to the hosptial after RNY, so drink your fluids. I had RNY in 2006 and have done well. My wife had a revision from a 1980 gastric wt loss surgery that had issues. No matter how much I tried to get her to drink fluids, she ended up back in the hosptial for 3-4 days about 3 weeks post op. DAVE

I was told to count anything that would easily go through a straw as a liquid (which would include things like soup broth), but to only count half the amount if the liquid contained caffeine (as Dave mentioned).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
