mistake in my favor!

So I just got my shipment of Quest bars - I'd ordered a box of vanilla almond and a bar of chocolate brownie - and when I opened the package, I freaked out b/c I thought they sent me the wrong type. I got a box of the chocolate brownie type, but then looked more in the box and there was ANOTHER box of the vanilla almond! Though the invoice shows what I ordered correctly, they did an OOPS and packaged too much. Shhhhhhh..... don't tell them, because those bars are expensive anyway!

Eh, I'm a stickler about things like this. I've been known to bring food back into a fast food restaurant when they give me something extra because I feel bad just eating something I didn't pay for. I know they can't give it to someone else but I feel like I at least need to be honest about it. :-/ If they tell me to keep it...so be it, but I dunno. Karma I guess. lol

I was thinking the same thing.  I'm sure if you called them and told them about it, they would tell you to just keep it.  But I would tell them.

I mean, if I got my order and found they left something out, I would sure call and tell them about it.  So I feel like I should call them if I got more than I paid for, too.

I'm weird that way but I would let them know.  They are a business and they can't afford to be giving out products like that.  Then they will really have to raise the prices.
I know those boxes are like $25 but how much is my peace of mind worth?  I would just let them know and offer to pay for them and save them for later.  I am sure you will use them and it just saves you from having to place an order and paying more shipping.  I would venture to guess that since it is there mistake they would tell you not to worry about it.  That would be good business, anyway.  That way your conscious would be clear and if they do ask you to pay for it then at least you can feel good about yourself for doing the right thing.

Kinda regretting this post. Now I gotta deal with catholic guilt and calling the company. Great....

5 min later.... SO I called them and told them of their mistake and they said for me to keep the extra box and wouldn't be charged for their error. The rep seemed very confused as to why I would call to let them know. Apparently not everyone is honest, so I'm not alone in my self-loathing..... But, yes, I did the right thing with much prodding from you guys. Guess I give a begrudging thanks to those who've served as my conscious....

I had to chuckle.  I'm sorry.  I worked in retail and customer service for a long time and yea, it's a surprise when someone tells you that a mistake was made in their favor.

Good for you for calling, though.  It's people who go about making small errors right that make me still have hope.

And I would have had to call, as well.  Even without the prodding.  And I am not even Catholic!

I bought a 3-pack of post-it's a Target recently because one of them says, "If only irrational guilt made us thinner."  Kind of summed it all up for me.
