Actually, I didn't feel better after calling. I felt worse and hurt because I felt like others were percieving me as a less-than-honest person. But that's just my issue to deal with.

I hope nobody thought any less of you for being happy about getting something you didn't expect.  I knew the company would let you keep it, that is why I said what I did.  Because I knew if I called and they said I could keep it I wouldn't have any guilt and on the off chance they wanted me to pay for it, oh well, it's not like I didn't get something for my money.  Or I could have told them to pay for the shipping so I could send it back if I couldn't afford it since it was their mistake.
I look at these kind of things as tests.  Sometimes I fail and keep the extra change and other times I do what I know is right and I get paid back by feeling good about myself.  I just decided a while ago that I like feeling good about myself better then I like feeling guilty and you can't put a price on that.

I'm a logic based person....and logic says that the ONLY thing they could do was let you have them.  it's food....which if I'm mistaken once it leaves thier warehouse, can't be returned to stock and even in the case of returns, is usually marked as a "loss" and tossed into the trash.  It can't be resold so it's already a wash for them.  They couldn't charge your credit card for the extra box you didn't order.  That would be an unauthorized charge since you ordered a specific amout and they made a mistake.  They wouldn't ask you to mail them back...i mean how could they demand you spend additional money to fix a mistake that they made.  Like wise by the time they send you a pre-paid box to return the item...an item that can't be returned to stock or resold...they have already spent most (if not all) of thier profit from the boxes that you did pay for to recover an unsaleable item.

Now, the next time you're in Best Buy and they give you two DVDs or something...feel free to let the guilt (self imposed or otherwise) run free.  But for a box of Quest bars.....naw.

I was going to say the same thing as Hillery. Even in a grocery store, if someone puts something they don't want on a shelf by the check-out counter, even whle still in the store they have to throw it away. Can't afford the lawsuits over contaminiated/adulterated food.
Still, it is good to call. You did the right thing. Kindness always finds its way back.
