To keep or to exchange?

So I'm not quite 6 months out, down 100lbs, 60 of which since surgery. I've gone thru sizes fairly rapidly in the past few months and am down to a size 12/14 now. I treated myself to a Victoria Secret order whi*****luded a few pairs of pants on clearance - one a size 12 and 2 size 10s. Except.... the one pair of pants were marked "10" on the plastic but when I opened them, are actually a size 8. They're velvet pants, so they don't have much give.
My question is, do you guys think I should return them for the 10 I ordered or just hold on to them as size 8? My hope was to wear them for the holidays, maybe New Year's.
I think part of my indecisiveness is A) it's a PITA to return things and B) I really question whether I could possibly be a size 8 by New Years. Or ever.

Hang onto them~~it's a real PITA to have to pay for shipping them back to the vendor and then have
to pay for buying them again!

Have faith!

When I was actively rapidly losing I never bought anything in my current size, I always bought 2 sizes down.  Most likely you will be in those 8's before the holidays.  I found that once I hit around a size 10 I dropped sizes pretty quickly then.  It seemed those double digits took forever between sizes, but I went from literally a size 10 to a 4 in no time.  I'd keep em, but realize that they might even be too big by the holidays.  I could never envision myself smaller than a 10 when I was pre-op.  Now I'm a 2/4.

I don't mean to sound ultra critical, but your response assumes that EVERYONE will eventually end up in a size similar to yours -- single digits at any rate -- and that simply is not the case.  If many of us had erroenously received something in a size 8 and not returned it within the specified time limit, we would have ended up having to just give it away.

None of us has any way to know what size Nicole will end up (probably including Nicole), but I think it is very important not to put unrealistic expectations in the heads of other people who may be reading your response.  MANY people never get to a single digit size even after RNY.

She asked for opinions, and this was mine. However I can absolutely respect your opinion as well. My response reflects my experience, and my opinion on her situation specifically, and is not intended as an assumption for everyone in general. My opinion is that it is very realistic that she will fit into at least an 8 in 3 months if she is 6 months out and currently a 10/12. If she were a larger size right now my response probably would have been different.

No hard feelings, and I know you are just speaking up for the general good. We all have different paths and different journeys.

Thanks for the advice all! I'm going to keep 'em and rock the single digits for New Years!! I have confidence that I'll get at least close with continued hard work.

Oh, and this advice is specific only to ME - anyone else comparing themselves to what I have lost/ will lose/ feels disappointed because they haven't achieved X,Y,or Z....... remember that comparison is the theif of joy.

I would keep them. If you are in size 12/14 now and you have 24 more pounds to lose, by the time those pounds are gone so will be the sizes.

Now for a little math

This is the 1st day of October, so you have exactly 3 months to lose 24 pounds. You need to lose

8 pounds a month to reach your goal; which is 2 pounds a week. I don’t know how many

calories you are allowed so I will just say 800.

1 pound = 3500 Calories

3500 cal. x 2 pounds = 7000
800 Cal. X 7 days wk = 5600
7000 + 5600 = 12600
12600 / 7 days wk = 1800 Cal.

You need to burn 1,800 calories a day to lose 2 pounds a week.  I learned how to calculate it when I use to wear the body bug, which I will start wearing again as soon as I am cleared to exercise. Hope this helps. Good luck, Crissie

I'm glad you're keeping the pants. You will be HOT rockin' them over the holidays!!!

As I was losing weight it kept surprising me how fast I dropped sizes.
